๐ This Day in History ๐
In 1926 Winnie-the-Pooh made his Literary Debut.
The popular childrenโs book character was created by British author A.A. Milne and first appeared in a collection of short stories called Winnie-the-Pooh. Winnie, a teddy bear, lives in Ashdown Forest, Sussex, England. The book followed his adventures in the forest with his friends Piglet, Owl, Rabbit, and Eeyore.
We adore Winnie-the-Pooh and appreciate the life lessons he shares in every story we read to our students at Arden Academy! Book character dress up day at Arden always holds a spot for Winnie or one of his Forrest friends! Our school library holds many Winnie-the-Pooh books and are held and read by many each day! โค๏ธ ๐

Our Sensory Room is definitely one of the most loved places on our 3 hectare peoperty.
Everything happens here! Our annual โwhole school photoโ, indoor recess, therapies, graduations etc!
We love this space for its openness, unique design and fun whole body stimulation approach.
In this room Katherine and her team work tremendously hard at accommodating, developing, strengthening and supporting childrens needs on many fronts! Having been raised by a single parent is an experience that has shaped me into the person I am today.
While working as an air hostess, I studied to become a teacher. This means education and aviation just run in my blood! โ๏ธ ๐ฆ๐ฝ
My husband was the one who stood by me when the Arden idea blossomed in 2017. He supported every crazy idea and remains my number one cheerleader along with our two gorgeous children!
Arden Academy is a lifelong dream of mine BUT it stems from my MINISTRY and itโs roots are secured in Christian soil ๐ . This ministry caters for students who would otherwise not be able to attend school comfortably due to various reasons while it allows neurotypical students to enjoy schooling in a more relaxed and natural fashion.

Mr. Matthew Cowie is Arden Academyโs principal. He loves a hearty pasta and has a sense of humour that attracts all. Mr. Cowie loves the colour red and Cape Town is is favourite holiday destination. Hiking with his pets stands at the top of his โfun listโ while his trip to Disney Land in Paris ranks as his most memorable holiday.
Mr. Cowie loves to work with each of our students at Arden and knows them all by name. He places the students needs first and appreciates learning through fun.
We appreciate our principal and look forward to reaching unimaginable heights with him! โค๏ธ

Arden Academyโs students have managed to raise enough bottle tops and bread tags to purchase two wheelchairs โฟ๏ธ for two young men from Avril Elizabeth Home in Germiston. The Glenferness community also joined in this beautiful venture. At Arden, we are so grateful ๐ for our amazing and caring students and an involved community!

About Arden
The cottage school concept, such as is offered by Arden Academy, is a dynamic and ground breaking way of providing all the benefits of home schooling, away from home. It is an environment that makes learning the fun filled experience it is meant to be, rather than the rigid โold schoolโ drudgery.
It is a well known fact that children learn MORE, learn QUICKER and retain information BETTER while having fun. Ardenโs indoor and outdoor facilities have been designed and developed around this all important factor.
Further to this, with our facilitator-to-student ratio being very small, Ardenโs highly qualified and dedicated educators are able to ensure that every child is taught according to their own cognitive, emotional and physical pace. This in turn implies that no child lags, or is โleft behindโ, as so often happens in traditional schooling where teacher-pupil ratio is too high to provide attention to a particular learner.
Since we are committed to always reaching the โwhole childโ, and not just their academic development, the Arden program offers some amazing and out of the ordinary learning activities.
