Yesterday I had to go through to Richard's Bay, from Monzi, to sort out some business - promise!
On the way I had a stonking view of a juvenile Ayre's Hawk Eagle 😁😁😁. June nogal!! Yes they do over-winter! No pics 🙈🙈 Camera stolen a while ago 🙈
After the necessary business ... I visited a photographic shop. Yes I bought a camera - Canon PowerShot SX70 HS. 😁😁😁

A very pleasant morning with clients Bill and Jane from the US of A.
Durban Bot Gardens first and then Umhlanga NR - very pleasant birding.
Finished off with lunch at Wilson's Wharf, and a couple more lifers for them - target accomplished for them of 200 birds for their stay in cloudy RSA.

A great bird club outing today - what a cuckoo day, and that wasn't the members!

A fun Sunday yesterday guiding my client to see 60 birds on his 60th birthday!
We got there easily, and his friends were able to be back for the rugby!
We carried on birding in the oasis of a garden!
The most interesting bird was a possible Karroo Thrush (awaiting photos), which would be out of range!

Monzi - overnight stop from Wakkerstroom to home - the long way round!
Stunning countryside and some new roads travelled 😁
Not many birds as the wind was howling - trees over road!
However, there were some pretty flowers along the way - Spring flush!!

A weekend birding tour at Elaleni Coastal Forest Estate for their marketing department.
The estate has a stunning remnant of Swamp Forest which is home to Green Malkoha (all year), and Spotted Ground Thrush (winter). A Scaly-throated Honeyguide has a call site on the periphery of the swamp forest. A few other species noted on the estate were; Olive Bushshrike, Red-faced Mousebird, Cape Grassbird, Red-capped Robin-chat, and Purple-banded Sunbird.
Homeowners do not hesitate to contact me regarding birds or trees.

A new venture for me, and a new adventure for you!
I, Ian G. Gordon, have formed iThuba Out There Safaris. My passion and knowledge of the outdoors will provide memorable adventures from the coast to the mountains and in between!
About me: A conservation forester by training. My career was spent working in the indigenous forests of kwaZulu-Natal, from the coast to the mountains, conducting floristic and avi-faunal surveys. An active citizen scientist, and currently the KZN Co-ordinator for the South African Bird Atlas Project (SABAP2). Previously served on the Birdlife KZN Midlands Bird Club committee - Conservation Portfolio.
