🌷 Follow these easy steps for a blooming wonderful display of tulips in Spring!
🌷 Plant your cold-treated bulbs as soon as you receive them.
🌷 Plant in semi-shade, away from sun-drenched walls or paving. Loosen the soil well.
🌷 Pots should be positioned in semi-shade and must have good drainage. Once in flower, containers may be brought indoors.
🌷 Plant bulbs with the points upwards, spaced about 2-8cm apart, and covered with 5cm of soil and 2cm of mulch (old compost is best). As not all varieties flower at the same time, group same varieties together.
🌷 For a massed effect in pots, plant the bulbs approximately 2cm apart, and cover with a little soil and 2cm of mulch (old compost is best).
🌷 Keep continually moist at root level, (especially in pots) by watering every 2 to 3 days.
Flowering time: 10 weeks after planting. After flowering, your tulip bulb may be discarded.

Top Tips for Blooming Bulbs in Containers!
🌼 Select the Right Pot Size: Match the pot size to the type of bulbs you're growing. Smaller pots work for hyacinths, but a large container is needed for a grand display of lilies. Give your bulbs space for their roots to run free and ensure the pot you select has drainage holes at the bottom.
🌼 Use Quality Potting Medium: Opt for a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix. Add compost to the soil, and incorporate sand if needed to enhance drainage.
🌼 Ideal Placement: Position your containers where they will receive morning sun and afternoon shade.
🌼 Get Creative: Try bulb layering in containers or grow your spring flowering beauties hydroponically.
🌼 Decorative Touches: Add pansies and violas to your containers for extra colour while your bulbs are growing.
🌼 Watering Tips: If using a saucer, or cover pot, make sure to empty it shortly after watering to prevent waterlogging.
Cummon spring ☺️
From humble beginnings...
When world peace was reestablished in 1945, two young Hollanders were finally able to realise a long cherished dream – to settle in South Africa and grow fine flower bulbs.
Floor Barnhoorn and Harry de Leeuw were selfmade men. Both had left school at the age of 14 to earn their livings by selling bulbs for growers. Their 18 hour days finished with evening classes in English and bookkeeping.
Keen, alert and full of drive, they brought their flower bulb expertise and newly acquired language and accounting skills to South Africa in 1946 and established the Company that is today known as Hadeco®.
They first planted fast growing gladioli for cut flowers and corms – to generate some much needed cash flow, before branching out into other crops. The early days were not easy. The first bulb store was a secondhand army tent and staff sometimes had to wait patiently for their wages.
