Performing since 2006, Mareli is a Bloemfontein based performing artist. Drawing on influences from the music created by the likes of Bruce Springsteen & Tracy Chapman, her music has been categorized as a crossover between commercially accessible rock and traditional folk, creating a sound that falls under the genre of Afrikaans Folk Rock. Mareli is of course, Mareli du Plooy, a solo artist with a
degree in media studies. She performs as a solo artist accompanied by a acoustic guitarist or a full band. In her 9 year history, the then “InAsense – a duo that Mareli used to be a part of – enabled her to play in all major venues around the region. It was Mareli’s passion for all things music, that in 2010 her dreams became a reality when she partnered with Manley Studios to record and release her debut album “tweedstryd”. The album is a mix of Afrikaans Folk Rock songs written by respected and influential songwriters in the South African music industry, including the likes of Shandor Potgieter, Jacobus Bezuidenhout, Zanda Traut, Niel Higgins, Xavier Saer and Gustav Smit.
