MEDIA STATEMENT: TARIFF INCREASE FOR THE 2024/25 FINANCIAL YEAR

CENTLEC (SOC) Ltd is deeply concerned about the messages circulating on various social media platforms encouraging electricity users to purchase electricity before the 1st of April due to the increase of 12% which according to the message, is coming into effect on that particular date.

As CENTLEC, we would like to state it categorically that the new electricity tariffs for the financial year 2024/25 in our area of operation, will only come into effect on the 1st of July 2024, after the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has considered and approved our increase application for the period in question.

The 12,27% increment announced by ESKOM over the Easter Weekend have no bearing on CENTLECs' tariff increment application which is yet to be approved. However, all our clients are advised that CENTLEC will be implementing the winter tariffs with effect from the 1st of May 2024 till the 31st of August 2024. Summer tariffs will only kick in from the 1st of September 2024.

The current electricity tariffs for the period 2023/24 are readily available on our website at www.centlec.co.za under tariffs.
