The Evolution of Happy Feet Gaiters
I live in the African bush on a wildlife Estate so the roads and trails are dirt and not paved. Little sticks and gravel often get into my running shoes and in summer the sticky grass seeds attach themselves to everything. This is really uncomfortable as they are scratchy and work their way into your socks. I took an old buff and some safety pins and made my first pair of gaiters... different fabrics were all tested from breathable cottons, to 2 way stretch lycra and finally a 4 way stretch and smooth lycra, not easy for anything to stick to and cool designs!
Hand sewn, too small!
I thought an outer seam would reduce skin friction but not necessary and unattractive.
Hand sewn with safety pins to hold in place. Looking better!
