TOPIC: THE BENEFITS OF CAMPING WITH GOD

SCRIPTURE: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

It has been established that who you hang with determines what hangs on you. Association brings assimilation.

When you associate with someone, after a while, you begin to look like them, talk like them or act like them. That is why those who spend time with God assimilate the Character and Nature of God.

When you camp or spend time with God, you acquire the Nature and Character of God, and when you acquire the Nature of God, you stand out in life. Those who camp or spend time with God stand out from the rest of the people.

Now, what are the benefits of waiting on God?

i. Waiting on the Lord is key to supernatural strength.

They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).
You gain strength when you wait on the Lord. You become stronger spiritually when you hang around God. You are not permitted to be a victim of weakness if you wait on the Lord.

There is a song we usually sing many years ago. The song says,
We have come to thee O Lord (2x).

We have come to the Father.
We have come to renew strength.

When you come to God, you move from one level of spiritual strength to another.

So, waiting on the lord is key to supernatural strength.

ii. Waiting on the lord is key to divine health.

Waiting on the Lord is vital to the renewal of your health. To wait on the Lord is like going to the mechanic workshop to have your car serviced. Just as we go to the mechanic workshop to service our car by removing stale or bad engine oil, when you go to God, He services your life by removing sickness, afflictions and diseases.

Look at what happened to Moses after he had stayed with God for a long time.

Deuteronomy 34:7 says,
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

As a result of staying with God, his eyes were not dim, and his natural force was not abated. He tarried with God and every sickness or disease was cleaned out of his system.

Beloved, when you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

Remember this: When you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Make up your mind to spend time with God at the place of prayer.

2. Remain with God until you renew your strength and revitalize your health.

WALKING IN AUTHORITY

“Then he said, “What pledge shall I give you?” So she said, “Your signet and cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” Then he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.” ‭Genesis‬ ‭38‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The first 9 verses of Proverbs 31 are the words of King Lemuel of whom we know very little. In reality, they are the words of wisdom taught to him by his mother. They consist of two prohibitions and one recommendation. The recommendation is on the necessity of the King becoming a mouthpiece and defender for the poor and voiceless. One of the prohibitions is that the ruler should avoid intoxicating drinks, and the other one is avoiding illicit sexual activities. On the latter, Lemuel’s mother claims that it has potential to destroy kings.

Judah bears witness to the fact that immorality truly destroys people. He slept with Tamar, who had once been the wife of Er and Onan his first two sons respectively. Before the liaison, Tamar negotiated a wage. Judah promised to send her a kid from the flock. She asked for a pledge or a surety in the interim. The pledge is what our text is focused on today. Take a careful look at what Judah left with a "harlot" just for a fling. He gave her his signet, bracelets, and the staff! Being the head of a tribe, those were the symbol of his authority. It is curious that this man literally abdicated his office to have an affair with a woman. He was totally stripped of everything precious to him. Isn't the Bible correct when it says that by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread? The cost of immorality can hardly be captured in words. Before long, you lose your dignity and sense of esteem. If what we have seen of Judah is of any general application, then immorality eats deep to the root of our spiritual authority. Walking in power and authority requires that we walk in purity.

TOPIC: HOW TO KNOW A CHRISTIAN

SCRIPTURE: Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Matthew 7:20.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Authentic Christians are known by the positive fruit they bear.

It has been confirmed that the Christian journey is a journey of character reformation and transformation. And since character is the roadmap to destiny, being a genuine Christian or child of God positions one on the pathway to destiny fulfilment.

This means, to have a solid destiny, you must possess quality and positive character.

Now, I would like you to take note of few key facts on character as far as Christianity is concerned.

i. The most significant impact of Christianity is character transformation.

Acts 11:26 says,
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The most significant impact of being a Christian is not having a title or a church sticker; it is the transformation of character.

ii. Followers of Christ are known by their fruit or character, and not just by church attendance.

Authentic Christians are known by the positive fruit they bear.

Mathew 7:20 says,
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Duration of church attendance does not make a person an authentic Christian.

By the manifestation of character, you know who is a real Christian. One can be born in a church and not be a Christian.

The question is, what does your character reveal about you? What fruit is your life bearing? Can people say you are a Christian by the fruit you bear?

This is my counsel to you: pay attention to your character development. Make a conscious effort to follow the example of Christ Jesus, not just in word, but in lifestyle and attitude.

Remember this: Authentic Christians are known by the positive fruits they bear.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Make up your mind to be an authentic Christian.
2. Make the development of your character a top priority of your life.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to bear godly and positive fruits. Help me to be a reflection of Your Image on the earth, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

POWER OF PERSISTENCE

“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭62‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus illustrated the power of persistence with a parable in Luke 18. The main casts of the story were a widow and a judge. The latter was reputed for his disregard for God and people. The widow came to him in search of justice. Initially, the Judge couldn’t care less; but the woman would not let up. Finally, the judge caved in and gave justice to the woman. This he did not so much because she feared God but because the woman had become a nuisance and would not let him rest. The import of the story is stressed by the words of Jesus in these verses: "And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?" (Luke 18:6-7). God is not dead; the reason we don't see as many breakthroughs as possible in our prayers is that we kill our own request sometimes by lack of faith, and at other times by inability to hold on a little longer.

Persistence is a condition for rest of the believers. Our text recommends that those who call on God should not give Him rest. Someone might say, "Is it not preposterous for ordinary mortals to say they will not give God rest?" That would be the case, except it is God Himself who seeks to be disturbed. In the passage for meditation God is calling on us to come the oftener into His presence and hang around the throne. It does not matter if we have come before, we are free to do it again and again.

TOPIC: SWIFT OBEDIENCE – A GUARANTEE OF SPEEDY LIFTING

SCRIPTURE: So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
Genesis 12:4

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The challenge of our generation is laxity of action; the challenge of our generation is lackadaisical attitude.

A major character of the eagle is swift motion. This guarantees its high flight and existence at the top. The eagle is at the top ahead of other birds.

Similarly, in Scriptures, men and women who were high flyers were given to urgency of action. When duty called, they moved and acted urgently.

Now, one example of such persons was Abraham.

When God called him in Genesis Chapter 12, to leave his country, his kindred and father’s house, to a land unknown to him, he moved swiftly.

Genesis 12:4 says,
So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; …

God spoke to him in verse 3, and in verse 4, he obeyed God.

Also, in Genesis 22, there is no other verse between the verse of the instruction he received and the verse of his obedience. Abraham departed as the Lord had spoken to him.

God called Abraham again to take his son and sacrifice him on a mountain he would show him. And early the next morning, Abraham obeyed.

We did not see if there was a discussion between Abraham and Sarah his wife on this matter.

It was not possible for Abraham to tell Sarah, “The child you waited for all your life and got at the age of 90, God said I should kill him,” and she would not react.

Sarah could have reacted and said something, “I will kill you first before you kill the child. We will kill each other first.”

But Abraham departed to sacrifice the child without any record of his negotiation of God’s instruction with Sarah his wife. Rather, he moved speedily.

Thus Abraham enjoyed speedy lifting to the top by the instrumentality of his swift obedience of divine instruction.

The challenge of our generation is laxity of action; the challenge of our generation is lackadaisical attitude. This attitude has prevented many people from becoming useful vessels in the Hands of God. But that will not be your portion, in Jesus’ Name.

Beloved, be determined never to let the attitude of laxity be part of your lifestyle. Make up your mind to obey God swiftly so you can enjoy His lifting Power that will take you to the top places of life.

Remember this: The challenge of our generation is laxity of action; the challenge of our generation is lackadaisical attitude.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Refuse to embrace lackadaisical attitude.
2. Like Abraham, deploy swift action and urgency in fulfilling God’s purpose.

ACCESS

“Then the woman ran in haste and told her husband, and said to him, “Look, the Man who came to me the other day has just now appeared to me!” ‭‭Judges‬ ‭13‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The operations of God are so dynamic that they often surpass human computation. When God wants to carry out His mission in a family or an organisation, He typically looks for an access. This entry point is anyone who is attuned to the move of the Spirit. God works with people who are open and accessible. When He finds such people, the issue of gender is set aside. Age does not even count when God is looking for access. We have known of families where it is one or two of the children that understand and yearns for God. They simply become the priests of their families as God honours them and confirms their word. God does this to prove that He is not a respecter of persons. Anyone who meets His conditions is accepted by Him.

This brings us to our text. Manoah’s wife suffered temporary barrenness. An Angel was sent to communicate the mind of God to the family. One would expect that such message should come firsthand to Manoah, being the husband and head of the union. That was not to be as the Angel went straight to the woman to give her the good news which she eventually relayed to her husband. The man, now growing inquisitive, prayed that God might send the messenger back. God obliged him; but again the Angel appeared to the woman while she was in the field. God is not a respecter of persons or gender. Those who are available are His picks.

Topic – The Power Of Positive Character

SCRIPTURE: And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master. – Genesis 24:14.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Character has a higher selling power than beauty; character has a higher selling power than certificate and connection.

In Genesis 24, when Abraham’s servant was looking for a wife for Isaac, he made a striking request to God regarding the character or the kind of woman he was looking for.

According to our anchor Scripture, he did not ask God, “O Lord, as I stand by this well, the most beautiful girl I see, let her be the wife of Isaac. The most educated girl with all the degrees in the world, let her be the wife of Isaac.”

Is that the prayer he prayed?
No!
Rather, the prayer he prayed was centered on character.

And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

Genesis 24:14
This means, the servant was looking for a lady with character that would give both him and his camels drink.

The lesson here is that character has a higher selling power than beauty; character has a higher selling power than certificates and connections.

Anything you have in life without good character is at the risk of being lost.

For example, you may have influential people who can give you their business cards to access privileges and advantages in life, but they cannot manifest character for you. Their cards may give you a job, but it is your character that will keep the job.

Character has a higher selling power than beauty. I don’t want you to misunderstand me. I am not saying that it is sinful to be beautiful or have academic degrees; it is a better and greater thing when you combine that beauty with good character. It is an asset to combine good looks with good character.

This combination was found in Joseph. He was a young man with good looks and quality character.

Beloved, my counsel to you is: let Godly character be your priority. In all thy getting, get Godly character.

Remember this: Character has a higher selling power than beauty; character has a higher selling power than certificate and connection.

ASSIGNMENT:

• Make up your mind to combine good character with all that you have.

GOD AND SCIENCE

“And the priest shall come again on the seventh day and look; and indeed if the plague has spread on the walls of the house” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭14‬:‭39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Science basically advances through a cylindrical process. It follows this format: observation-question-hypothesis-experiment-analysis-conclusion. When that loop is completed, it begins again with new round of observations. Some think that science and the ways of God do not meet at all. However, scriptures point otherwise. Let us take an example. The whole of Leviticus 14 is devoted to procedures relating to leprosy, either on persons or buildings. The procedure to deal with the plague of leprosy on a house begins with suspicion. If you like, call that observation, the very beginning of scientific investigations. If the owner of the house sees some darkened or reddened spots on his building, he goes straight to inform the priest. At the order of the priest, everything in that house must be evacuated, persons and all. After this the priest goes in for physical examination. He then commands the house to be shut for seven days; after which he returns again for another round of inspection before a further pronouncement is made.

The first lesson is the fact that following God's procedure is not what we can do in a hurry. People are often carried away by the speed at which something is done; but God is more concerned with the thoroughness of the steps. The second thought is the fact that the priest having to make investigations at all before knowing the state of things with the house. Since God is all knowing, why won't He just make known the status of the house at the very first visit? Well, God has different ways of making the truth known. Some truths will be communicated to you by revelation. Others will come to you through observation. There are times you have to be scientific even in your faith walk.

TOPIC: PILLARS OF CHARACTER

SCRIPTURE: By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The absence of the fear of God is the reason for the reckless behaviour of people in our generation.

Character, godly character, is key to accessing the Blessing of God. Positive character is critical to living a prosperous life (Genesis 39:1-9).

The Scripture reveals that God blessed Daniel, Joseph and Esther on the grounds of their positive character.

So, character is very crucial to accessing the Blessing of God. That is why God is calling us into a lifestyle of character.

Now, there are pillars that stabilise character in one’s life. There are the things that make a person exists as a person of positive and quality character.

In our study today, we shall be looking at two pillars of character.

i. The fear of God.

The fear of God makes people depart from iniquity.

Proverbs 16:6 says,
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

You don’t beg people to avoid evil if they have the fear of God. You don’t beg people to do the right thing if they fear God. The absence of the fear of God is the reason for the reckless behaviour of people in our generation.

ii. The life of contentment.

1 Timothy 6:6 says,
But godliness with contentment is great gain.

The lifestyle of contentment is key to developing positive character. We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we are taking nothing out of it.

Contentment is the cure for covetousness. When people refuse to be satisfied in God, they can decide to get satisfaction or success from other sources at all cost. When people refuse to allow God to raise them, they struggle to raise themselves to the detriment of their destinies. Lack of contentment is the reason why armed robbers and ritual killers take the lives of other people.

Avoid the attitude of lack of contentment!

Remember this: The absence of the fear of God is the reason for the reckless behaviour of people in our generation.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Make up your mind to fear and reverence God; Let the fear of God guide all your conducts in life.
2. Be contented with what you have; avoid the temptation of covetousness.

GOD’S VIEW LENS

“Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭36‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

You will find a number of impressive attributes in Bartimaeus. He seized the moment when chance presented itself. When he heard that Jesus was passing by he began to call out for help. The disciples tried to hush him; but that only rekindled his determination. He cried out so loud that Jesus had to stand still. He got his miracle. Why do we prefer calling him blind Bartimaeus, and not Bartimaeus the persistent? Or Bartimaeus the faithful? Think of Thomas as another example. I am not sure anyone else has taken the kind of bashing that this man has continued to receive. He is the butt of preachers' jokes. We call him doubting Thomas. But it is on record that this man did not remain a doubter. History even has it that he went to India and did great works for the Lord there. What we are saying is that people are quick to see and describe others from the negative side.

We need to see things with God’s view lens. Elizabeth and her husband had served God faithfully despite the fact that they hadn't any child yet. God sent His angel to inform the priest while in the course of his duty that his wife would give birth to a son. This miracle was what the angel needed to stir up the faith of a virgin that she would give birth to the Messiah. The angel informed her that Elizabeth was already six months pregnant, even though people "called her barren". While people called her barren, God had a great plan for her and it came to pass. As many as are spiritual should look away from the downside of others. Focus on the good things of others. On your part, never allow the negative opinions of people become the chief narrator of your life.

TOPIC: THE HINDRANCE TO WALKING IN LOVE

SCRIPTURE: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Satan would want to hinder you from walking in love by orchestrating challenges around your life.

The Scripture reveals that love is a Nature of God (John 3:16). This implies that as children of God, we are designed to manifest the Love Nature of God our Father. We were created to walk in love.

However, it is worthy of note that there are hindrances to walking in love. One of such hindrances is personal challenges and confrontations of life.

It is difficult to walk in love when your life is challenged and confronted.

What is obvious many times is that when someone is challenged, they may decide to face only themselves squarely and leave others. When someone is facing challenging or difficult situations in life, they may begin to think, “What do I have to offer anyone? I am only struggling to survive; I don’t think I have anything to offer.”

In the year 1986, I had an appointment to pray for a close relation of mine who was suffering from a terrible demonic affliction at the time. The night before I could go and pray for her, I had an oppressive dream.

When I woke up in the morning and started getting ready to go and pray for her, the devil was suggesting things like, “You need prayer yourself. Who do you want to pray for? You need prayer yourself; you must be delivered first before you can deliver another person.”

Then I said to that devil, “I will show you what I'm about to do.”

So, I went and prayed for the young lady, ejected all the demons out of her, and she was totally delivered and freed from the clutches of the devil.

The point I am trying to make is, Satan would want to hinder you from walking in love by orchestrating challenges around your life. But you must refuse to give up on your duty of love to the people of your life.

You must always remember that even when you are confronted with challenges, you have something to offer. Therefore, refuse to be discouraged; continue to release love despite the challenges of life. And in helping others, your help gets released from the LORD because life is a seed.

Remember this: Satan would want to hinder you from walking in love by orchestrating challenges around your life.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Refuse to allow challenging situations of life to hinder your walk of love.

2. Make up your mind to manifest love and continue to offer solutions to people’s problems even if you are challenged.
