I nearly forgot to tell you about a very interesting organ recital I went to. My friend and colleague, Erik Dippenaar, played on two organs in Makhanda and taught us soooo much about the history of the keyboard music and each organ. I'd never experienced anything like it before. Its wonderful when something like this happens.

Yaz' my children sang. Yea! I have working with them for six months and they sang their first concert. They were Sooo nervous but they went ahead. I'm so pleased for them. It takes a lot of courage to stand and perform. Happy Teacher ๐Ÿ˜Š

A new singing student said to me, "I just love singing sir. It's a vibe". I thought, โ˜บ๏ธ and yes my boy it's a vibe. Never heard of singing being described as a vibe kodwa I understood him perfectly. ๐ŸŒฑ

I love finding old sheet music. There's often very interesting notes on the score. In this batch, I learnt that music composed by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was performed by esteemed performers of the time like Caruso. I finally found the recit before 'When e're you walk' and the first part of 'Night and Day' is wonderful. It should be done more often.

Last term, I had the pleasure of presentating my Folk Song vs Art Song folk song at UMkomaas Primary School. I went to this school way back in the day. It was wonderful to share this music with all the learners. Please let me know if you want me to come to your school. This talk is ideal for creative arts. It's interesting and loadsa fun!

Hello there, how are you? I hope you're good. I don't post here very often. But, I had to share this. Yesterday, I got to speak to the Gr. 7 Drama pupils at Winston Park Primary School about Art songs and Folk songs. I was proud to use the recordings of South African singers, who I've admired for years, for the talk. You should have seen the eyes of the pupils when I said the Njabulo Madlala was from KwaMashu. They sat and listened to the recordings without much fidgeting and were engaged in the music. The aim of this talk is to expose them to art songs and their relationship to other music. I succeeded in doing this. I walked away even more convinced that IT'S ALL MUSIC. It's not better than other musics. I'd love to come to more schools to present this talk to many other talks. Let me know if you'll like me to come around your school. The talk is complementary to the current Creative Arts syllabus.

I love old music books. I am guaranteed to find suitable pieces for my students in old books. I found a beautiful lullaby in this book, and I can't wait to try out new pieces for my students. I seek them out in charity shops and the internet. Folksongs are an easy way to improve your singing and the message in the text is always current.

Let me know, via private message, if you're interested in improving your singing using folksongs and other interesting pieces. I have slots available in my schedule.

Hi there, how are you? I have a singing tip for Wednesday! It is for everyone who's just started taking singing lessons and they are nervous about their upcoming concert or exam. Performing is an important part of your growth as a singer. A young singer must learn to apply their technique in that performance setting. Remember that it will take time to master ALL the techniques. In the meantime, remember that your ability to sing is not in question. Its your ability to use the technique.

Send me a message on this account if you're interested in improving your singing. I have slots available on my schedule. I teach singing in Durban, KwaZulu - Natal.

For the next little while, I'll be giving music and singing tips for students on this singing journey. I'll give every one every Tuesday. Let's talk about good singing!

The first tip is to embrace the process. Yes, there is a process to singing well with the required technique and emotional expression. There's so much that a professional singer knows that take time to understand. If you're a singing student take your time, ask the questions and listen to the music. I promise that you'll get it.
