Our second inspirational woman is Zambia's first vice president inonge wina

Inonge Mutukwa Wina born 2nd April 1941.She was married to Arthur Wina, an independence fighter, former minister and academic who died on 3 September 1995.They had three children, two of whom are deceased. Arthur Wina was educated at Munali Secondary School which, in colonial times, was Zambia's principal secondary school for native Zambians. A number of the members of Zambia's first post-Independence cabinet, (including Arthur Wina's brother Sikota), were also educated at Munali.

Wina attended primary school in Senanga, at the Barotse National School (now Kambule Secondary School) in Mongu. She eventually completed her high school education at Santa Monica High School in Los Angeles, California. She obtained a diploma in social work at Santa Monica College. She also enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Zambia when it was first opened.
Wina's involvement in community work dates back to the early 1970s when she volunteered free service to women's movements. She has served on a number of boards of non-governmental organisations and as president of the Young Women's Christian Association, where she was instrumental in promoting women's human rights agenda, resulting in the Zambian government's establishment of the Victim Support Unit under the Zambia Police Service. In 1996, she was elected National Chairperson of the NGO Coordinating Council of Zambia (NGOCC)

In the Red Ribbon Campaign to defend the Zambian Constitution in 2000, Wina led the women's movement. Wina also served on the boards of Refuge Services Zambia, the Zambia Council of Social Services, the University Teaching Hospital, and the University of Zambia Council in the public sector. In 2001 Wina was elected as Member of Parliament of Nalolo Constituency as a candidate of the United Party for National Development. She was elected chairperson of a number of portfolio committees, including the Committee on Human Rights Gender and Governance, and Women Parliamentary Caucus.

Wina re-contested her Nalolo seat as a United Liberal Party candidate in the 2006 presidential and general elections. She lost the election and appealed the results to the High Court; the case was initially decided in her favor, but the Supreme Court eventually overturned it. Wina ran for the Nalolo seat again in the 2011 general elections, this time on the Patriotic Front ticket, and won. Wina was included in President Michael Sata's initial 18-member cabinet as Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs. On March 8, 2014, Sata, during the commemoration of International Women's Day, upgraded the gender cabinet division into a full ministry and subsequently appointed Wina as Minister of Gender.

On 26 January 2015, newly elected President Edgar Lungu appointed Wina as Vice President of Zambia. She ran on Lungu's ticket in the 2016 election, becoming the first woman elected as Vice President and resigned from the position ahead of the 2021 general election, announcing her intention to retire.

Meet Sarah N. Bweupe

She is the founder Of Finest Fit Kitchens and Wardrobes

Here is here story.....

I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” Sarah.N.Bweupe

“If you want to run for presidency as a woman, you can. If you don’t, that’s wonderful too. Shave your armpits, don’t shave them, wear flats one day, heels the next. These things are so irrelevant and surface to what it is all really about, and I wish people wouldn’t get caught up in that. I want to empower women to do exactly what they want, to be true to themselves, to have the opportunities to develop. Women should feel free and courageous to dominate on this planet.”

Sarah.N.Bweupe is not only an award winner in construction business but a well-trained cabinet maker a skill she obtained from chawama skills training center, she also studied construction materials testing at National council for construction in 2019 and wishes to further her studies in Road construction supervision and Building supervision at NCC., she is a strong lady that believes in herself she says “I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work, even if they are uncomfortable at the time. “to me success as a woman has changed me. That’s what I feel is the first thing. When I feel like a successful woman as a rounded human being, then it feeds my work in a broader way so it becomes more interesting.

I wouldn’t say carpentry was my child thing but I decided to take up it as a career because I wanted to try out something different from what other ladies would want to do, I think you can recall that mostly when you ask pupils what they want to do when they finish school most of them want to be lawyers, doctors, nurses, Accountants and none of them say I want to be a carpenter, bricklayer¬ or plumber. So I told myself if am taking wood work as a subject at school why can’t I take up carpentry as a career? My father gave me support and encouragement very few parents would do that. He paid for my fees at the skills center.

Carpentry is wide it has a lot of components, there is carpentry and joinery, Cabinet making, carpentry in construction So for me at the moment I am specialized in Cabinet Making and I do install Built in kitchen and Wardrobes and I have a registered company called Finest fit kitchen and wardrobes. I trained my brothers and shared my skill with them so I have 4 employees at the moment all are youths.
When I started carpentry a lot of people laughed at me saying carpentry is a dull man’s job and not for ladies. So I never paid attention to any negative feedback I told myself I can do it and no one will make me feel like I made the wrong decision and people who inspire are those people that have gone through hardships mockery and failure but never gave up.

The journey hasn’t been easy I remember when I had no tools after I left college and I was stuck only way out was to find a job and raise money for tools, because of the good works I was awarded by PUSH WOMEN AWARDS in 2018 in the construction and Architectural award for women who are doing extraordinary things. The media has helped me share my story for carpentry in a positive way and I have managed to train 4 youths and given them a skill that will help them earn a living even when am not with them.

The challenges I faced being in a male dominated field were competing for jobs and jobs are hard to find in this industry and entrepreneurship in Zambia is not easy if you are not yet connected to people that can help you grow your business, we lack mentors who can push us and advise us young entrepreneurs, but the only I have managed to overcome these problems is by being creative and by been innovative and whenever am having an opportunity I had to prove to clients that I can deliver the services am saying am qualified in, it was not easy to pe*****te the market.

My biggest Dream is to own a workshop or a factory for carpentry services and products that will employ a number of people in society and alleviate poverty. I wake up by every day trying to do my very best in my career so I can also be recognized in my field I want to show and be an example to a girl child that even is females can make it in the male dominated fields. To all the youths and women out there I would encourage them to take up skills as careers and earn a living and make a difference in society. I hope to inspire youths and women so they can see that anything is possible if you work hard.

Happy women's day 🥳
