Arnold's Designs

Last month I was contracted to transform this exhibition platform at the Lusaka Agricultural Show Grounds. The whole project started very late. The design approvals came in very late that I almost withdrew from the project. Then I remembered that from the inception of my creative journey 3 decades ago, My creativity thrive on the pressure of deadlines. I thrive on tight deadlines that in the past I felt abused when some one gave me too much time for any design projects.

I decided to go ahead with this project last month with less than 48hours before deadline. The work had to be done by Tuesday end of the day but I only had Monday. I got my small team of 3 and we set out to grab the bull by the horns.

Honestly speaking I have not done this kind of jobs that involves climbing on scaffolds, nails and hammers for some good 8-10 years. It was a marathon. By day two which was the deadline I had to be all things from supervisor, carpenter and engineer all in one. We worked with my team until midnight. We were extremely exhausted but our tasks were all done on this very day.

However, it was so late and so exhausting that I was not even sure whether we had done the best. My eyes could not judge the quality of work properly due to exhaustion. I had to go back early in the morning the following day to counter check that the branding was on point.

What my eyes saw during the day was completely different from what I saw at midnight with exhausted eyes. It was so refreshing. The place was beautiful. The time and exhaustion obstacles the previous night were so big yet that is what made the successful view I witnessed during the day so sweet.
