Vehicle Care Tips (VCT)

1) before you turn on the Engine check carefully the levels of the following;

-Engine oil
-ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) for Gear box.
-Water or coolant levels by opening the radiator cup
-water wiper levels
- Brake Fluid (BF)
- General Engine Appearance (dusty, or just Dirty)

2) Turn on the Engine and carefully listen to any mysterious sounds.
If Any perculier sounds make inquiries.
Let it Run on for a few minutes to allow oil to circulate in all Engine sinuses.

3) Assess the tyres ( Deflated, unbalanced) sometimes get a wheel spanner 🔧 🔧 and test the wheel nuts to confirm that they are tightly screwed as few do it, Remember safety comes first.
To some cars a certain light on the dush board appears e.g in symbol like this (_ _ _) when driving to tell you that tyre pressure are not balanced. You must get to the tyre pump regulator immediately to confirm before the car goes bizarre.

4) check the Car Lights if functional e.g. Head lamps, Tail lights, Indicator lights, Reverse lights.

5) Buy a book for documentation of engine care and oil change dates using mileage regulations e.g every after 5, 000 km or any darkening of the oil color etc.

6) Before driving or reversing check carefully the environment before bashing the unnoticed infants or objects.

REALISTIC TIME FRAMES TO NOTE WHEN IMPORTING A CAR

There is so much anxiety when you import a car. One of the most unsettling feelings is the imagination that you may have been swindled. However, even with reliable sources the anxiety 😥 is almost always there. So here are some time frames to help you manage the stress and the excitement of importing a car.

A- 3 Days- this is how long it takes between the time you transfer money from your bank account to the time it reflects in the foreign account of your supplier. Be careful when submitting bank details. A slight wrong digit on the SWIFT CODE or account number can cause a two week delay or so.

B- 7 days- it takes 7-10 days for the shipping company to pick up your car after your invoice has been paid. This may go quicker or longer depending on when you buy. Ships are like buses also, they wait for them to be full.

C- 21 days. A ship used to take 60 days a long time ago in the late 90’s. But these days it takes 21 days to move from Nagoya to Tanzania or to Durban or to Namibia. Improved navigation and modernization of port operating procedures have quickened the process.

D- 7 days. This is the time it takes to offload your car from the ship. It’s at this point that you should have contacted your clearing agent and your car must have already been cleared at port of entry by now. Clearing takes 4-5 days so ensure you have paid your $400-$600 here. Avoiding demorage charges is jet to saving your car.

E- 5 days. Transportation of your car from port of entry to the next border takes about 5 days. These are realistic expectations. If you don’t manage your expectations you will think they have stolen your car.

F- Three days. Depending on when you paid your duty your car can cross the border into Zambia 🇿🇲 in three to five days. You can pre clear your car and pay duty while it’s still in another country. This saves time. But it also increases anxiety. Some cars have had accidents in foreign countries including breakdowns after duty us paid. It’s up to you. Your release order from ZRA can be a pain to wait for. Make sure you work with honest people. WARNING- do not send ZRA MONEY TO ANYONE. Pay it yourself. Just ask for the C NUMBER and declaration number.

G- Two days. NAKONDE to Lusaka us two days. Some do one day but take your time. This is the most exciting. Ask for pictures at various stages for security reasons and for accountability.

H- D DAY- take your car to a very price car wash. You will appreciate it better. These cars arrive very dirty plus the drivers almost always carry people for lifts on the way. So take your car to be cleaned. You will thank me later.

CONCLUSION- it takes 60 days from the time your order your car to the time you drive it. Assuming you are ready financially and you are very organized.
