As harsh as this may sound, you need to realign your dreams and temp your expectations for yourself.

You can't be 25 years old with a job earning you less than 15 thousand Kwacha a month and be only dreaming of the best cars and vacations abroad, mansions and expensive phones.

You come from families that expect so much from you, you friends, your community, your country needs you. But if you have dreams that only focus on yourself at the cost of everything else, you'll one day realise that your dreams were too expensive and not just in terms of money. Have aspirations like starting, or growing a profitable business. Derive pleasure in being a person of value. Contribute to your community.

I can afford any car yet I still drive myself in a pair of lexus that are many years old. They are comfortable, they are powerful, they are reliable and that's all I need. I still go to work every day, I am still building, I am still starting up businesses even though I am way older now.

This is not because I am greedy for money or too thirsty for success. It's because I have realised that what gives me pleasure are the day to day intricacies of business and the thrill of solving challenges. The idea of contributing to and reshaping my country in ways that would leave a lasting impact.

If I choose to be flashy and flamboyant, how does that help my cause? How does that make me happier? Would driving a lamboghini improve how I feel about my life. Not really, but it would greatly hurt my chances of building intergenerational wealth.

So dream to be comfortable. And be realistic in your expectations so that you learn to appreciate the progress you are making. Regardless, in everything you try, I wish you the best.
