Well Done Apple
It was one of the most shameful moments of my life…
I’ll never forget the tears running down my mom’s face as she pleaded with me “Dan, don’t do this.”
I was like a crazed gambler...
I was on a mission to make a success of myself, and all I needed was another $5000.
One of our family friends had asked me to help him with his business.
He was a website builder and told me that all we needed to do was build a website and sell it for a massive profit.
I was in.
So, what started out as an initial $1000 investment, became $2000, $5000, $10,000 and ultimately $25,000.
He told me we were close to having a breakthrough and all he needed was another $5000.
Mom had loaned me all the money she had left, and even though she didn’t want me to give him the final $5000, I told her to believe in me.
Later that day I gave him the money.
“Thanks, Dan, that should be all we’ll need.”
I went home thinking that I’d get my big break.
Waiting for him to call, one day went by, then two days, and I hadn't heard from him.
On the 4th day, I called him and his number was disconnected.
I rushed over to his office to find out he'd disappeared.
No one in the building knew where he went, or even knew much about him.
I called every number I could with no luck.
I’d been scammed for $30,000.
I was so full of anger, hatred, and shame.
I was furious at myself.
“Why do I keep making dumb mistakes like this?” I asked myself.
I had no answer.
I felt so bad I thought of jumping off a bridge and ending it all right then and there...
But I thought about what that would do to my mom, and why I even began this journey in the first place and I couldn't do it to her.
I tell you this story for a few reasons.
Be very careful who you trust.
Sometimes the closest people to you will take advantage of you.
And no matter how hard life gets, ending it all is never the solution.
