[UPDATE ON FUEL SITUATION IN SOLWEZI]
Fellow citizens, some filling stations in solwezi have had fuel available but due to power rationing schedules they haven’t been able to efficiently dispense fuel to customers.
However, ZESCO Solwezi management has come to help the situation by providing electricity to filling stations so that fuel can be supplied to consumers without interruptions and inconveniences.

Excited to see the people of Kyawama compound have access to clean drinking water.
Fellow citizens,
We express our excitement to see the people of Kyawama compound during this critical period caused by the drought having access to clean drinking water.
This is as a result of UPND government’s efforts to improve people’s lives in the communities by using public resources prudently.
This was during our tour of duty inspecting community projects earlier today.

Fellow citizens,
Last week we had the privilege to engage with His Excellency Mr Hakainde Hichilema at State House.
It was a powerful way to link Central Government with Local Government. It was so encouraging to hear His Excellency acknowledge the role we play as local civic leaders.
Most importantly, it was reinforcing to hear the programmes lined up to benefit our people at the local level.

UPDATE FOR YESTERDAY’S ENGAGEMENT WITH ZESCO
Fellow citizens,
Yesterday in the afternoon North Western Province ZESCO region manager came through to our office and we successfully held an engagement meeting with him and his entourage.
The meeting was necessitated from the cries from the general public in residential and business premises regarding the supplying of power during the loadshedding period.
We assure the good people of Solwezi that after the meeting we had, ZESCO will start following the approved loadshedding schedule and power will be off for 12 hours and on for 6 hours.
We encourage the community to cooperate with the ZESCO management during this crisis in managing the load power supply as we strongly recommend ZESCO to follow the loading shedding schedules and make sure facilities such Water Plants and Solwezi General Hospital have power always.

ZESCO SOLWEZI I’M YOUR VISITOR THIS MORNING
Fellow citizens, as the country is experiencing load shedding, there are fixed timetables across the nation that are enabling businesses to know what time to operate and utilize electricity.
Here in Solwezi the case is different because there is no established timetable for power cut from ZESCO regional office which is negatively affecting & inconveniencing the good people of Solwezi.
It is unacceptable that people should be having power only during sleep hours for 3 hours!
It is for this reason that this morning we are visiting ZESCO offices to give them our concern so that they reconsider the number of hours & times of the day they are providing electricity to the local people so that businesses keep running.
You elected us and we committed to serving you as our masters & we shall always ensure that our people are treated fairly 🙏🏽.

Fellow citizens,
Yesterday we finally commissioned the Mush*tala - Kimasala bridge for use.
The the bridge plays a vital role in improving the road connectivity between Mush*tala area and the Central Business District- CBD.
The commissioning ceremony was officiated by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Honorable Charles Milupi who took the opportunity announce that works will commence this year for the construction of two major roads in the province.
The road on which the bridge lies remains in a gravel state but construction works on the road will commence next month (August) using the MOU between Kansanshi Mining and the Local Authority.

REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT GRACED 2024 NATIONAL LABOUR DAY CELEBRATIONS IN SOLWEZI
Yesterday we were amongst various dignitaries and Government officials that attended this year's National Labour Day celebrations held for the first time in Solwezi district.
The National Labour Day commemoration was graced by the Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema earlier yesterday at the Solwezi Independence Stadium.
In his address, the Republican President expressed delight that this year's May Day has been commemorated away from the Capital City which he said shows the importance of all provinces in the Country.
Mr Hichilema called for unity, teamwork and hardwork amongst employers and employees for productivity to be realised in various institutions and business set ups.
This year's International Labour Day Commemoration was held under the theme: "Building resilience; workers at the heart of Zambia’s economic recovery".
We thank the Republican President for choosing to commemorate this day in Solwezi district, an even that for the longest time has been taking place in the capital city of Zambia, Lusaka.
We also appreciate the corporate community such as FQM Kansanshi among others that took part in this year’s labour day celebration and urge the mine to support local businesses with business opportunities.

YOUTH IN GOVERNANCE WORKSHOP IN PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA.
Fellow citizens , we are currently in Port Elizabeth, South Africa attending an International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD) workshop sponsored by Sweden.
The ICLD workshop is intended to appreciate the youth who take part in local governance as well as tapping into new ideas on how we can involve the youth in decision making.
The youth are the majority and have the upper hand in today’s digital world in terms of technology which is a key component in government leadership but are marginalized.
In this regard, we aim at increasing youth participation in local governance and set up structures for junior Local Government as a way of involving the youth in decision making in line with development and governance.
Meanwhile, the workshop will go on until Saturday and it is a privilege to be the only Mayor to have attended this event of noble cause among the 16 Local Authorities invited.
