DIY: How To Know Tare Weight Of Gas Cylinder Bottles Using Digital Weighing Scale

It is a good thing to know the sizes of the gas cylinder bottles you are using at home for domestic-use. Also, if you are into this line of gas business, knowing the sizes of cylinder bottles at your depot is important to sales and distributions. It is very bad to just guessing what a gas cylinder would scale. The fact remains, along with the gas bottle dimensions, they can vary greatly by manufacturer and date of manufacture. For example, older bottles tend to be heavier than more recent versions.

Every gas cylinder bottle comes in different shapes, sizes and different materials used to manufactured them. Only a digital scale can determine the exert size of a cylinder bottle. Even s cylinder bottle with 47Kg boldly written on it, can give a 50kg when weigh on a scale. Some cylinder bottles manufactured today, WILL have every TECHNICAL information stamped on the ring neck. However, while some Doesn't, others don't. So, how can you then accurately determine the size of a cylinder bottle as such?

Substandard cylinder bottles gives wrong figures, these figures you see stamped on the neck ring are mostly wrong. Wrong Tare Weight (TW), Wrong LPG Worth (LW), and so on. Which is why it is recommended you obtain SON approved gas cylinder bottles, with ISI/BIS mark from authorized distributors only. Substandard gas cylinder bottles gives wrong Tare Weight (TW) figure. Tare Weight is the empty weight of a gas cylinder bottle, including the cylinder dimensions, also greatly affected by the material used for manufacturing.

What To Do With An Overfilled Gas Cylinder Bottle And How To Prevent This?

NOTE: Do not attempt to use an overfilled gas cylinder bottle, for it can blast when in use. Take the cylinder bottle or container far away from any source of heat or electricity. Call for the help of an experience gas man. First safety steps is to take the gas cylinder bottle to a secure area, well ventilated. Then purge out or release out some gas away without lighten up your gas stove/burner.

So, how do you handle a situation whereby a gas cylinder bottle was overfilled, either by your supplier or the gas service man?

First all, it is not advisable to refill your gas cylinder bottle without actually knowing the LPG worth of the bottle. Knowing the total weight of a cylinder bottle/container is totally different from knowing what the LPG worth is. The LPG worth is the amount of LPG gas that can be contained in a particular cylinder. You can actually check the neck ring of any cylinder bottles to determine what the LPG worth and total/tare weight are. However, if you try to determine LPG worth of a cylinder bottle using a scale, you are getting it all wrong. A scale WILL only show you the total weight .

HOW TO AVOID THE COOKING GAS CYLINDERS EXPLOSION

Gas cylinders can explode if not handled and used properly. Here are some safety guidelines to prevent gas cylinder explosions:

1. Store gas cylinders safely:
Keep gas cylinders upright in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Do not store gas cylinders in basements or garages.

2. Inspect gas cylinders regularly:
Inspect gas cylinders for damage, such as dents, rust, or leaks. If you find any damage, do not use the cylinder and contact your gas supplier for a replacement.

3. Use the correct fittings and hoses: Make sure to use the correct fittings and hoses when connecting a gas cylinder to an appliance. Do not use damaged or makeshift fittings or hoses.

4. Check for leaks before using:
Before using a gas cylinder, check for leaks by applying a soapy solution to all connections. If bubbles appear, there is a leak and you should not use the cylinder.

5. Use gas cylinders only for their intended purpose:
Do not use gas cylinders to heat homes or to power generators. Gas cylinders are designed for cooking and other specific applications only.

6. Turn off the gas valve when not in use:
When you are not using a gas appliance, turn off the gas valve at the cylinder. This will prevent gas from leaking out.
