HOW TO DESIGN A FUNCTIONAL HOUSE PLAN.
When designing your house plan you need make sure that the design is fit for purpose and that the house will be comfortable to live in.
Below are some ideas of how to make your house plan design functional.
1. Space Management
You need to understand how big you need the house to be and this can be determined by factors such as size of the stand and size of the family.
Space is mutually exclusive, so at times you need to make a choice of having a big lounge or smaller bedrooms, having fewer but bigger bedrooms, having a double or single lock up garage or non at all.
The size of your family and the ages of the children should play a key role in making that decision.
The family will grow older, children may go to boarding schools and as they grow older may get married and move out. You need to consider how this may alter your space needs in future and design a house plan that meets that.
2. The direction of the house
Your house should face a direction that allows natural light and fresh air to flow freely in the house. The location of bedrooms and the living room must well naturally lit to create an ambience that allows you to relax.
3.Engage Family members
You need to consult other family members so that you can get their input as well, you will be surprised by the good ideas you can get from your children. What is functional to you may not be functional to the next family member which is why it important to get views and ideas.
4. Engage an Expert to design
You need to work with an experienced Architect who can guide you to make the best decisions.
Working with inexperienced architects will obviously be cheaper but you will not be guaranteed of a functional house design and unfortunately you may only see some design errors after construction.
