“The trees are coming into leaf
Like something almost being said;
The recent buds relax and spread,
Their greenness is a kind of grief.

Is it that they are born again
And we grow old? No, they die too,
Their yearly trick of looking new
Is written down in rings of grain.

Yet still the unresting castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness every [September].
Last year is dead, they seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.”

Jumping on here to answer a common question I receive:

“Do I need a website?”

The long and the short of it is YES (in most cases). Websites can be your most valuable digital asset in 2021.

Here’s why:

⋒ Online presence 24/7
»

⋒ Information exchange
» Gives customers all the information they want, in one place.

⋒ Credibility
» You need to show them you’re legit. Professional brands invest in websites.

⋒ Market expansion
» Accessible worldwide.

WEBSITES ARE AMAZING - you should book in with us to build one for you.

A passage to dawn.

When I was a little girl, my mum used to take us on adventures on the farm on which she grew up. Along dusty roads, she wove together stores of giants and hyenas who wore amber beads, witchdoctors and their crooked curses and ancient chiefs who fell from power and whose spirits still hung above the land in a thick green blanket. It was almost as though her stories were her obligation to our generation; exhilarating our little spirits.

We used to explore caves and spend hours sifting through cool sand to find arrow heads, tribal beads and bits of broken pots - fast fluttering memories of her soft voice whispering stories of warriors who painted crocodiles and rivers with blood on the cleft granite walls that surrounded us. She engaged, inspired and educated us with her words.

And I think that resultantly, the very power of words is fascinating to me. The ability to shatter or stretch a person to great lengths with syllables strung together into meaning. And therefore, the importance of shaping our own realities through the narratives we tell. And choose to live.

Mumma, thank you for teaching me the power of storytelling and the weight of words. Helen Boaler

Pictured here are some of the ancient beads I found the last time I went looking. How incredible?

Hey everybody,

Today I want to stress the importance of a high-quality, scalable logo for your brand. While free design programs sound like an absolute breeze and the most cost-effective option out there, you will most likely run into trouble down the line.

Here’s why:

⋒ Your logo is the cornerstone of your brand and will probably be used in print at some point in your business journey. The low-quality files you receive from free design programs will never let you scale you logo to print on signage and other bigger projects later on.

Think of the future now. can redesign elements of your existing logo and indefinitely scale the project without losing quality.

Here are some lovely clients I’ve worked with to transform their logos into vectors.

I love this photo. It’s no photographic masterpiece, but when I look at it, I smile.

It’s like holding a life up to the light and seeing something simple and beautiful: a moment where the sounds of all those things that can’t be seen sing within everything that can. And it reminds me how lovely it can be to sit, bum firmly plonked on the grass, as the world spins and the sun sets behind you.

I thought that Folly deserved a feature on page because:

⋒ She is ever so sweet and clever.

⋒ She has kept me sane whilst self-isolating over the past week.

⋒ She filled a gap in my life that I didn’t even know was there. And for that I am grateful.

One of my photos is on the cover of magazine 🙌🏼 🥰 So exciting.

Make sure you buy a copy... I also have a little write-up on Jacaranda season in Harare inside - a touch of history and some pretty pics.

For me, Jacarandas hold the seasonal promise of November rain and as such are an evanescent symbol of hope.

I’m Katherine Boaler, a senior-level writer and editor with the goal of improving your businesses share of voice, influence, and conversions through copy. I am one part grammar geek, one part marketer, and one part photographer. I love taking complex topics and making them understandable to readers.

Many write. Few put in the years of practice it takes to write well.

Fewer still write with a level of clarity that exploits the full power of words. “Easy reading is damn hard writing,” as Nathaniel Hawthorne put it.

I graduated with a first class degree in Journalism, specialising in Writing and Editing For The Media from The University of Cape Town. I went on to study Digital Marketing and Communications at a Postgraduate level at Africa’s leading Advertising institution, The Red & Yellow School of Magic & Logic (or “Hogwarts,” as my father calls it).
