Have you ever found someone who is a total and complete champion of what you do or who you are? I feel so grateful to those people in my life who embrace me for me and who constantly show up in big ways to show their support.
I've also been very fortunate to find people professionally who get behind what I'm trying to do. When I started photography I had my own doubts, which were echoed by plenty of other people, about the reach of my work. It was too weird/dark/personal, some would say ugly, some would say lacking depth - the opinions were all over the board. I remember receiving advice that I should try to make my work more commercial if I wanted to get brands behind me so that I could make more money. Let's just say flat out, that was terrible advice for me, and thank goodness I didn't take it.
I have come to learn a grand lesson by navigating my art while trying to make a living from it, and that is this: Passion is queen. The more you believe in what you do - and, yes, work to make it better and better - the more others believe in what you do. The more you shout your love for your craft, the more others echo those sentiments.
