Announcement

After careful consideration and consultation, the Ministry has decided not to grant authority for Vacation School during the upcoming April holiday for Grade 7, 'O' and 'A' level candidates, and non-examination classes. We believe that students deserve a break to rest and engage in independent learning.

Provincial Education Directors are tasked with ensuring compliance with this directive. Let's continue to prioritize the well-being and educational growth of our students. Check out the statement in full!

Participants from Bulawayo, Mat North, Mat South, Masvingo and the Midlands provinces are attending a system capacity strengthening workshop in Gweru under the Safe to Learn Initiative. The workshop, run with support from UNFPA Zimbabwe , focusses on all pupil safeguarding circulars with the aim of enhancing compliance through the correct interpretation and implementation. Other stakeholders attending the workshop include teacher unions, school heads and education partners. The initiative seeks to improve attendance, retention, transition, completion and pass rates in the Zimbabwean education system.

The National Non-Formal Education Policy introduced in 2015 is undergoing review with various stakeholders currently in Gweru to work on a reviewed policy framework. The review process which is being supported by Plan International Zimbabwe is aimed at aligning NFE activities to the human capital development needs of the country in line with the NDS1. The policy, which is being reviewed using the Whole of Government approach, is also expected to promote wider access to inclusive, equitable and quality 21st Century education.

The Minister, Hon. T. Moyo today met teacher unions and representatives of school heads in an engagement meant to discuss issues affecting the teaching fraternity. In his keynote address, Hon. Moyo described teachers in the country as the backbone of the education system. He assured the teacher representatives that he would work to address challenges affecting the fraternity including conditions of service and transfers among others. The Leading Learning for Gender Equality, , workshops for Chiredzi, Nyanga and Rushinga/Mt. Darwin closed today on a high note with school leaders being tasked to start working on their school based projects. These projects are zero budget programmes implemented to address challenges at school level which may negatively impact pupils outcomes and derail efforts to promote gender equality. The LLGE workshops are supported by the British Council and Higherlife Foundation.

The Leading Learning for Gender Equality programme, run with support from the British Council Zimbabwe, is this week being delivered in Chiredzi, Nyanga and Rushinga districts. The programme aims to entrench instructional leadership with a gender equality focus in school leaders as a way of enhancing the educational outcomes for girls and boys in Zimbabwe.
