Medications for Obesity; Review
Of special concern to the anesthesiologists is glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) which may cause nausea, vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying.
The current recommendation is to stop the oral form for 24 hours and the injectable form for 7 days preoperatively.

Risk of Mortality Following Surgery in Patients With a Previous Cardiovascular Event
Question:
Is the time elapsed since a cardiovascular event associated with an increased risk of mortality in patients undergoing non-neurologic, non-cardiac surgery?

Conclusions and Relevance :
In this study, surgery within 1 year of an acute coronary syndrome or stroke was associated with increased postoperative mortality before reaching a new baseline, particularly for elective surgery.
This information may help clinicians and patients balance deferring the potential benefits of the surgery against the desire to avoid increased mortality from overly expeditious surgery after a recent cardiovascular event.

Be careful during the reversal of the neuromuscular blocker with Sugammadex !!!
Adverse events (AEs) related to sugammadex reported in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database from January 2009 to September 2023 were extracted, A total of 1452 reports were linked to sugammadex.
The most common side effects are:
-Anaphylactic reactions
- Bradycardia
- Bronchospasm
- Cardiac arrest
- Hypotension
- Anaphylactic shock
- Recurrence of the neuromuscular blockade.
Other side effects include pulmonary edema, pulseless electrical activity, hypoxia, tachycardia, respiratory failure, laryngospasm, and Kounis syndrome.

The interesting finding is that the side effects are much less with neostigmine.

Noninvasive Ventilation for Preoxygenation during Emergency Intubation
Conclusion:
Among critically ill adults undergoing tracheal intubation, preoxygenation with noninvasive ventilation resulted in a lower incidence of hypoxemia during intubation than preoxygenation with an oxygen mask.
