Hussain is the Head of the Management Discipline Group, and Professor of International Business at the Adelaide Business School in the University of Adelaide.

He is also the current Academy of International Business' (AIB) Oceania Chapter President.

His research focuses on the internationalisation of services firm, the transfer of knowledge across the inter-and intra-MNE networks, global talent management, and international business negotiations.

Hussain has also undertaken research consultancy work for several regional and global institutions, including, Austrade, DFAT, and the Export Council of Australia.
