I'd love to study motorsport engineering part time - is this possible through Coventry University? I dont have any qualifications in engineering or mechanics but I did gain a degree in computing at Coventry University and I have experience working on cars and specifically race cars as I built this 1400hp (estimated) dragster with my father and I drive it it.

Phoenix Racing is Coventry University's entrant to the IMechE Formula Student competition.

Semester 1? Completed it mate. πŸŽ‰

That is it for 2022! We didn't quite manage to meet the target of completing our chassis before Christmas. However, we are incredibly proud of the progress the team has made in the powertrains, suspension, and unsprung department whilst we were hit with unforseen delays with the chassis.

Next semester will be a big push for all of us to begin composite and assembly production, therefore everyone deserves a good rest with friends and family before Semester 2 starts in January!

We all at the team wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Years! See you soon! πŸ˜„πŸŽ„πŸŽ‰

It's time for ! 😍

On the last day at the 2022 IMechE Formula Student UK Competition the endurance event took place, the main event all teams want to complete and score highly in! For the endurance, one of the drivers up to the task was our 2022 Team Leader, James Scott. James had an incredible amount of determination and commitment to our Formula Student program to ensure we would compete at competition. Now graduated and working at Polestar and the BTCC team BTC Racing, we are all thankful for the amount of effort he put into the team. He gave us a guiding example of how to run our team effectively and ways to improve our previous shortfalls, most notably involving more Alumni and 1st & 2nd year student into our program.

We ultimately fell short at the endurance event, not finishing due to a hydraulic problem. However for 2023, we are all determined to finish the endurance event and finish well to help us boost our commitment to finishing strongly in the Top 10. πŸ”₯

We are proud to announce Red Bull as our energy sponsor for Phoenix Racing!

As engineering students, we are very familiar to working under stress with impending deadlines approaching and our strong commitment to Formula Student also. With this, there are days in the workshop where we need that boost of energy that tea and coffee can't provide alone, and Red Bull cans are often seen on the workshop tables. Having Red Bull as our sponsor will help us all to get the final designs of the car completed and be able to build our (aero) wings to compete in the 2023 Season!

Rounding off our podium streak at the 2022 IMechE Formula Student UK Competition, here we are celebrating Tyler Hobson’s incredible run at the Sprint event! His incredible skills driving the PR87-22 made him the only driver at competition to achieve a sub 60 second run, however a cone penalty push this time to 61.5s, ultimately ending up in 3rd place.

However, this still gives us a huge determination to improve our car from last year and be able to achieve an even lower time, especially as Tyler is now the Race team Leader for the 2023 Season Phoenix Racing! We all at Phoenix Racing know Tyler has the potential to lead the team to beat the previous records broken with his knowledge, team leading skills and charisma. πŸ”₯

The statics for the Formula Student competition are one of our main priorities for Phoenix Racing to help us achieve our target of a Top 10 finish this year. Therefore, we have put our faith in our passionate team member Daniel Jones to help us achieve this through the business aspect of the competition.

From the get-go, Daniel showed true commitment and pride to ensure that Phoenix Racing had a strong car in 2022 throughout his 2nd year at Coventry University. As he currently conducts his placement year at the prestigious bike company Royal Enfield, Daniel is still committed to helping Phoenix Racing by volunteering to run the business case department for 2023. With this help, as well as his priorities to get 1st and 2nd year students more involved with Phoenix Racing to build our team numbers, Phoenix Racing should have no problem in achieving our Top 10 target this year.

As a team, we are grateful for the amount of work Daniel puts into the work done by Phoenix Racing and know his contribution will help us to build a fantastic car this year.

Phoenix Racing is participating in Movember this year, to raise awareness for the three biggest health risks that affect millions of men around the world: Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, and Mental Health.

As Phoenix Racing is ran by the students at Coventry University, we all understand the immense amount of pressure and doubt we all go through to balance our university deadlines with our social lives and health. Therefore, we want to break the stigma and taboo about openly talking about our mental and physical health, especially around men.

Therefore, we have started a fundraiser on the Movember website to reach our goal of Β£500 by the end of the month to help fund services for mental health and cancer research. Below is the link to our fundraiser, where donations will be massively appreciated!

I guess this counts as a shameless self-plug?πŸ‘€ Well the Social Media and Sponsorship Manager for Phoenix Racing has been me, Ish!

Ish is one of the master students at Phoenix Racing, excited and eager to begin another year of building the Formula Student car. Always up for a challenge, as well as wanting to use their hobby of graphic design for a motorsport role, Ish has been in charge of the Social Media presence at Phoenix Racing, completely recreating our platforms to maximise the potential of gaining sponsorship opportunities and allow for the people interested in Formula Student to keep up with the build timeline of the 2023 Formula Student car. Alongside his social media role, he has also been the sponsorship lead, working close with current sponsors such as The Bugatti Trust Museum and Study Centre. Alongside Phoenix Racing, Ish also works as a Junior Race and Performance engineer at Williams Esports, applying his data analysis skills learnt throughout his course in a rapidly emerging motorsport discipline.

Phoenix Racing has no doubt that Ish’s contribution will allow for Phoenix Racing to obtain key sponsors that will allow for us to build a competitive car. πŸ’ͺ

Vehicle Dynamics are the crucial base to any competent race car design; therefore, we have chosen Cavern Taylor to become this year’s Vehicle Dynamics Leader.

Cavern has always loved motorsport, entering esports and developed into building the esports team Elite Tier Racing. With this passion, Cavern has always looked into how to driver faster, looking into data to see where the setup can be improved and corners, he could shave tenths off from. With these key skills, it was only a matter of time before Cavern studied Motorsport Engineering to develop these skills much further and start to implement them to the real world as a Vehicle Dynamics and Data engineer.

We all at Phoenix Racing give our support to Cavern into building a fantastic base car this year to develop setups and extract even more time from our drivers. πŸ’ͺ
