Dear EECS undergraduate, MSc. and PhD students,

Have you ever wished you could compete against the brightest young minds in the world and prove that you are one of the best programmers? Well, on the 18th October 2014, you can do it!
The IEEE Xtreme Programming Competition 8.0 is an innovative 24-hour global online competition in which you and a team of up to two other students can test your collective coding expertise simultaneously against other student programmers. Solve and win the world’s most IEEEXtreme programming challenge and your team will claim ultimate bragging rights, be recognized as some of the world’s top up-and-coming programmers, and win an all-expense-paid trip to the IEEE event or conference of the team’s choice – anywhere in the world! Other prizes will include cool gear from the competition sponsors.
The competition will run from Midnight (00:00 UTC) on Saturday 18th October until Midnight on Sunday 19th October and the participants will compete in real time with all the other teams in the world!
Even though the competition is global and online you still need to be at an official venue to compete. GOOD NEWS: here at Queen Mary the IEEE Student Branch has arranged a venue (ITL Ground Floor) with computers, internet access, free food and drinks, etc. for the EECS students that would like to participate in the competition!
All the participants will receive gift bags from IEEE and the Queen Mary IEEE Student Branch will award additional cash prize (£100) to the local team achieving the highest rank in the competition (more prizes coming up).
For more information about the competition visit http://www.ieee.org/membership_services/membership/students/competitions/xtreme/index.html
Registration is already open and will close on midnight 4th October 2014. You have to be an IEEE member to take part in the competition. For more information about IEEE Membership, please visit https://www.ieee.org/membership_services/index.html
So hurry and register by sending an email to [email protected] by Thursday 2nd October 5pm containing:
- the names of the students in your team (a team can contain up to 3 students)
- their programs and levels of study
- their email addresses and mobile phone numbers
- their IEEE membership numbers
- T-shirt sizes
Once we receive your email we will register your team to the competition and will assign a Proctor to your team.
If you want to participate but don’t have any team mates, you can still participate in the competition (as a team containing only one participant). Alternatively you can also let us know that you are looking for team mates and we will find you some!
If you have any question regarding the competition or to register send us an email at [email protected] or visit our website:http://ieeesb.elec.qmul.ac.uk and page: IEEE Queen Mary Student Branch
Good luck to all of you!
