IMHO the voyager program is among the 10 most amazing achievements of the human race. Today is a good day to celebrate this great project, who among many other accomplishments is responsible to the two farthest nodes of the human communication network, with its sensors still delivering data back to earth.

Cognitive Network Science: A Review of Research on Cognition through the Lens of Network Representations, Processes, and Dynamics Network science provides a set of quantitative methods to investigate complex systems, including human cognition. "We offer an alternative principle to assess the physiological role of neuronal synchrony based on identifying structural anomalies in the underlying network and studying their impacts on the collective dynamics. In particular, we focus on autapses - time delayed self-feedback links that exist on a small fraction of neurons in the network, and investigate their impacts on network synchronization through a detailed stability analysis."

Network structure from rich but noisy data A technique allows optimal inference of the structure of a network when the available observed data are rich but noisy, incomplete or otherwise unreliable.
"We investigate the effects of modular and temporal connectivity patterns on epidemic spreading..... Within this framework, we study the epidemic size of Susceptible-Infected-Recovered, SIR, models and the epidemic threshold of Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible, SIS, models. Interestingly, we find that while the presence of tightly connected clusters inhibits SIR processes, it speeds up SIS phenomena."

This is a most fascinating discovery!
Spiders are, well, connected to complex networks by their very nature. This research shows how they use earth's electric fields (another complex network on its own) for spreading globally. Also, it reveals spiders' sense of these fields as a part of their neuronal system.
