Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

In our valiant effort to emphasize verse 20, we sometimes lose the incredible value of verse 19. Christ HAS given us "power... over all the power of the enemy"!

You are not defeated-Satan is defeated! Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world! The devil cannot pluck you out of Christ's hand. Satan's temptations have no power over you to force you to yield - you have power to overcome him!

But...you say...we are not supposed to rejoice in that power! True - but we ARE supposed to LIVE in full CONFIDENCE of that power!

"...I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one..." (see 1 John 2:13)

Go...and live...TODAY...like you have power over all the power of the enemy...and truly you DO...because Jesus said so!!!!

2 Kings 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Job could see the havoc that was being wrought on his home and family, but he could not see the devil behind it all. Elisha's servant could see the threatening armies of Syria, but could not see the invincible armies of the Lord of hosts that had been sent in answer to the threat!

The enemy you cannot see is the real threat - Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

But remember - the ally you cannot see is also very real indeed and (1 John 4:4b) ...greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Psalms 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

You are never alone!

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

If you believe that God made the world ("things which are seen") out of nothing ("not ... of things which do appear"), then you certainly have FAITH!

That same faith ... in that same God ... means He can make something awesome (just like He did when He made the worlds) out of that hopeless and chaotic segment of your life!

Doctors say there's no hope? God can still do miracles! Marriage on the rocks? God can still make a joyful HOME out of it! A wayward child who doesn't respond to any of your efforts? God can still turn a prodigal into a firebrand for Him!

Whatever it is ... or perhaps nearly isn't ... God can! Demonstrate your faith today by ... ASKING AGAIN!

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

1 Peter 2:19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 8: 17. β€œHe healed all that were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet saying, Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses.” This is quoted as the reason why He healed all that were sick. It was not that He might give his enemies a vindication of His Divinity, but that He might fulfill the character presented of Him in ancient prophecy. Had he not done so, He would not have been true to His own character, and if He did not still do so, He would not beβ€”"Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” These healings were not occasional, but continual; not exceptional, but universal. He never turned any away. β€œHe healed all that were sick.” β€œAs many as touched Him were made perfectly whole.” He is still the same. (A. B. Simpson)

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

If anyone ever thought that heaven could be attained by simply mentally agreeing to ("believing in") the exclusive EXISTENCE of even the one true God, they should read these verses again! It takes the surrender of the heart, and not the mere assent of the mind, in order to be fit for the Kingdom!

I noticed something recently while reading my Bible - even the ambitious, but vicious, Herod apparently believed in the accuracy of the scriptures (see Matthew 2:4-6), but he did not believe on the Christ of the scriptures, not worship Him as he suggested he would, but rather tried to destroy Him (see Matthew 2:16, et al)!

It's important what you DO with what you BELIEVE! You must certainly believe! But you must also act on what you believe, and live it out!

Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Do you have any afflictions? This is not about, or at least not SOLELY about, sickness. The word is very broad, and means anything bad or evil; anything that causes you distress, sadness, misery, or injury. I daresay you do have some! But...

Are you counted among the righteous? If so, you have the infallible promise of the immutable (unchanging) God - He SHALL bring you out of all of them!

Out of how many afflictions has He already delivered you?! There is no need to doubt that He will do it again! While we must honestly admit that a number of precious saints (the martyrs are among them of course) have taken some of their afflictions with them all the way to the grave, but THEN(!) ... He delivered them out of them all!!

So, whether in present time, or future eternity, each of our afflictions will fall by the wayside. That is the inheritance of the righteous. The sinner has no such hope, for his afflictions will be infinitely greater after the grave - misery in time; misery in eternity.

Choose to serve God. It's infinitely worth it!

Psalms 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

In the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy! Let's be careful, however, not to limit this amazing verse to our eternal reward after this life. His presence should ... even now ... bring a greater joy to our hearts than anything else ever does ... or could!

The Lord will give a crown of life to those who "love His appearing"! But we will not love His appearing at His second coming, if we do not love it when He appears (shows up) right now!

"So shall we ever be with the Lord" is one of the most incredible promises found anywhere in Scripture, but ... it doesn't mean a lot ... unless ... we love and thrill at His presence!!!

Do we love Him like we should? Does His presence bring us joy?

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Luke 12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Be ready!

Psalms 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

"For the LORD is good" - a powerful Creator (verse 3) could use His great power for evil and hateful purposes, but OUR omnipotent GOD is benevolent, gracious, and generous. How much more worthy is He of our praise!!!!

"his mercy is everlasting" - a just God (a God of justice) is rightly to be feared and reverenced, but, Oh! how thankful we should be that He is also a God of everlasting mercies - that His mercies are new every day!

"and his truth endureth to all generations" - the unchanging God can be trusted - He has the same expectations OF every generation - and His faithful promises are TO every generation. What He WAS, He IS, and forever SHALL BE!

Why praise Him? Because "the LORD is good"! When should we praise Him? Whenever "the LORD is good"! Forever! Where should we praise Him? Wherever "the LORD is good"! In the firmament of His power! How should we praise Him? According to how "the LORD is good"!!! Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!
