Alabama Cottage Food Law Course - Alabama Cooperative Extension System The Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Food Safety and Quality team offers in-person Alabama Cottage Food Law trainings throughout the state. This training is for those that want to is produce and sell certain nonhazardous food items from their home.

Alabama Extension's Food Safety Team would like to invite you to our Food Entrepreneur Conference! 🍅🍞🥗🥬

We will have inspiring stories from former entrepreneurs that have successfully entered the food industry. You will also learn what are Alabama Food Regulations and why they are in place. Food safety is our goal, so let us help you keep your business going with information on labeling, GMPs, self-audits and business strategies.

Alabama’s food entrepreneurs are positioned to capitalize on the nationwide trend to eat more locally sourced foods and locally produced products. With the state’s agricultural roots, food processing is a natural way to grow the state’s economy. Conference attendees will benefit from the knowledge and experience of presenters as well as having an opportunity to network with educators, regulators, and other entrepreneurs.

Ellen Swallow Richards became MIT’s first female graduate when she earned her BS in chemistry on May 31, 1873 — 150 years ago today. She went on to build the foundations for sanitary chemistry, food science, family and consumer sciences, and ecology as an instructor at the Institute. Her Woman’s Laboratory provided training to over 100 women, many of whom shared her work with their own students, who would later attend MIT. To mark Richards’ graduation and legacy, the Association of MIT Alumnae (AMITA) has created a self-guided tour in Boston, where Richards studied and worked before the Institute crossed the river to Cambridge in 1916.
