Trivia Tuesday!

When Nevada achieved statehood in 1864, there were only three (3) elected Justices on the first Nevada Supreme Court.

As Nevada has grown, so has the number of Justices. Currently, our state’s highest court has seven Justices, and in 2014, the Court of Appeals was created adding three Judges to hear appellate cases.

Nevada was admitted into the union on October 31, 1864. We celebrate our statehood the last Friday of October. As such, the courts are closed today.

Congratulations to more than a dozen Nevada District Judges who participated in two days of training at the Supreme Court Law Library to become Certified Water Law Judges as part of a three-year pilot program.

Requirements for certification: Specific legal, technical & practical knowledge, general legal knowledge, scientific & technical knowledge, as well as continuing education.

Presentations from Nevada professionals, judges, attorneys, and professors included hydrogeology, resources, case management, allocation, rights, and more.
