~Local Opinion: "As a receptionist, I hear a lot of visitors trying to, "Avoid the crowd of Pony Penning!"... As a local, this week still feels like a typical summer week. The busiest times are Memorial Day Weekend & 4th of July weekend. I believe visitors have avoided this week so much over the last several years, that less people have been staying on Chincoteague during this week in July. (crazy, right?!) Our island is so incredibly special, and our community, Fireman, Cowboys & volunteers work really hard every year to make Pony Penning Week special for all visitors.
I believe our local businesses would love to see more of a turnout for Pony Penning Week!"

PRESS RELEASE: Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce Accepting Entries for the 42nd Annual Chincoteague Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade

November 15, 2022--Chincoteague Island, VA: Chincoteague Island will host the 42nd Annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade on December 3, 2022 (inclement weather date Friday, December 9) beginning at 6:00 p.m. This year's theme, "Christmas in Toyland", offers opportunities to get very creative! Gather friends and family to participate in the parade or just come to watch.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Maddox Boulevard, head down Main Street, and end at the old Fire House so attendees can see enchanting floats, bands, marching units, decorated boats, fire companies from across the Eastern Shore, equestrian teams, classic cars, and more. Keep an eye out for Santa too! Entries may stop at the Judge's Stand in front of Chincoteague Island Library for a short performance.

The Chincoteague Police Department will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for their Annual Toy Run during the parade. Please consider making a donation and help put smiles on the faces of less-fortunate children this holiday season.

Festivities continue after the parade at the Chincoteague American Legion Post #159, 4023 Main Street. Visit with Santa while enjoying refreshments provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chincoteague. Trophies and prizes will be awarded there by the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce following the parade. Find all parade details HERE. Entry deadline is November 19, 2022.
