How do I know if I need to see a chiropractor? Do you have a spine? Most likely you do, so you would benefit from chiropractic care! Subluxations (partial dislocations/misalignments) occur within most of us. Sometimes you may not even notice them until they have been corrected and you realize you feel better. Chiropractic adjustments benefit more than just the alignment of the spine, such as the Central Nervous System (CNS). The CNS is a part of your body that processes most of the functions within your body and mind. Chiropractic care is so much more than just the “snap crackle and pop”. Call today to book an appointment and begin your journey to better health.

Picnic season is among us in the Chippewa Falls area. Enjoy it safely with a few tips. Keep perishable food out of the danger zone — a temperature range between 40°F and 140°F. When food is in the danger zone, bacteria can double in number every 20 minutes. Unfortunately, you cannot see, smell or taste if a food has harmful bacteria or toxins growing in it. Pack food in a well-insulated cooler with plenty of ice or ice packs to keep the temperature below 40°F. If the temperature outside is 90°F or above, food should only sit out for an hour at most. Remember — it's not just meat that can make you sick. All perishable food should be monitored closely, especially egg, potato and tuna salads made with mayonnaise, and anything dairy-based.

Does your family like to go out Kayaking? It is crucial to remember proper body mechanics while paddling. Correct posture allows for optimal body movement, enabling more powerful and efficient paddle strokes, thus improving overall performance. It also helps in maintaining better balance and control of the kayak. Remember to rotate your torso with each stroke to try and prevent any back, hip, and shoulder pain down the road. If you end up with any aches and pains, give our office a call.

Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls are well known for their beautiful bodies of water. Time to walk about water safety. What can you do? Employ layers of protection including barriers to prevent access to water, life jackets, and close supervision of children to prevent drowning. Ensure every member of your family learns to swim so they at least achieve skills of water competency: able to enter the water, get a breath, stay afloat, change position, swim a distance then get out of the water safely. Know what to do in a water emergency – including how to help someone in trouble in the water safely, call for emergency help and CPR.

Here in the Chippewa Falls area we love grilling. From hot dogs to bratwursts, BBQ cookouts tend to be all about the meat. While these meats are good sources of protein, they are commonly rich in saturated fat and salt. Grilled chicken, turkey, and pork tenderloin are considered healthier, leaner choices. Grilled fish, including grilled salmon and tilapia, are also rich in protein and healthy fats. For more nutritional guidance, give us a call!

Drinking water is essential for maintaining good health and well-being for several reasons. It is very important to remind your kids to drink water especially in the summertime. Why do we need to stay hydrated?
1) Transportation of Nutrients: Water serves as a medium for transporting nutrients and oxygen to cells throughout the body.
2) Joint Lubrication: Adequate water intake helps keep joints lubricated and cushioned, reducing friction and discomfort during movement.
3) Supports Organ Function: Water is vital for the proper function of organs such as the kidneys, which filter waste and toxins from the blood, and the liver, which processes nutrients and detoxifies the body.
4) Boosts Physical Performance: Staying hydrated is essential for optimal physical performance and endurance. Even mild dehydration can impair physical and cognitive function, leading to fatigue and reduced concentration.
5) Prevents Dehydration: Dehydration occurs when the body loses more water than it takes in, leading to symptoms like thirst, fatigue, headache, and dizziness.

We all know it’s tough sometimes to keep a balanced diet, but oftentimes it’s extra hard to get your kids to eat their vegetables. Some ways to incorporate those veggies can be fun!
1) Shred carrots, beets, zucchini or parsnips and put them into muffins, soups, or casseroles.
2) Puree vegetables, such as butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots and add them to cheesy dishes or well-loved pasta dishes.
3) Blend them into a fun smoothie by adding spinach, kale or squash with mango, banana, or berries can create a well-balanced snack.

Did your parents tell you growing up to always eat your veggies? There’s a reason! A balanced diet made up largely of a variety of vegetables and fruits is able to provide broad range of vitamins and minerals, contributing to better sleep while promoting a healthy weight. Because sleep and nutrition are extremely complex and involve multiple interconnected systems of the body, it is challenging to conduct research studies that conclusively demonstrate a single diet that is best for sleep. Instead, what appears most important is that a person gets adequate nutrition without overconsuming unhealthy foods.

What is foam rolling and why do we recommend it to our patients here in the Chippewa Falls area? Considered a self-myofascial release (SMR) technique, foam rolling is when you use a foam tube to alleviate muscle tightness, soreness and inflammation. It can also help improve your range of motion. Myofascial release helps manage pain and discomfort by applying pressure to areas that are tight or sore to help them relax. By using a foam roller, you can apply pressure and massage the area by rolling the tool back and forth. This can be helpful before you start a workout. Call us today to learn more, we are always welcoming new patients!

You are not alone. Anxiety is frequently connected to sleeping problems. Excess worry and fear make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. Does the Wisconsin winter make you feel down? Are you stressed about more things than you know what to do with? Try brisk walking. Perhaps the simplest way to get some stress-busting exercise is to go for a brisk walk. The Anxiety and Depression Association of America reports that some studies suggest that a 10-minute walk can be enough to restore calm and may be just as helpful as a 45-minute or longer walk when it comes to reducing stress and anxiety.

Residents in Chippewa Falls often take advantage of our area’s many golf courses. How does stress impact your golf performance? Stress has a direct effect on sports performance. If an athlete feels too much pressure, the stress can get to them and cause them to freeze up, crumble under pressure, or make vital mistakes when it matters most. It can also cause athletes to involuntarily tense up their muscles, leading to poor form and technique, may lead to cramp, among other issues. Make sure to destress before your game to prevent future health issues.

There are lots of great walking paths within the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls area. Walking and other exercise leads to the release of the body's natural happy drugs — endorphins. Walkers who walk at a brisk walking pace to raise their heart rate will notice this effect more than those who walk at a slower heart rate pace — wearing a running watch can help you monitor your heart rate and track distance traveled. But even at a slower pace, most people notice an improvement in mood. Take advantage of the walkability of our community!

Kid's poor device set up can cause:
1. Slumped Posture: Sitting for long periods without proper back support encourages slumping, which strains the neck and back muscles.
2. Neck and Back Pain: Incorrect screen height or distance causes the child to lean forward or look down, leading to strain on the neck and back.
3. Headaches: Poor posture can increase tension in the neck muscles, often leading to tension headaches.
4. Spinal Degeneration: Over time, poor posture can lead to premature wear and tear on the spine, a condition known as spinal degeneration.

Step-by-Step Guide to Proper Device Setup
1.Ensure your child sits in an ergonomically designed chair that supports the natural curve of the spine. The desk should be at a height where your child's feet rest flat on the floor, and their arms can comfortably use the keyboard with their shoulders relaxed.
2. The top of the computer screen should be at eye level. This positioning helps keep your child’s head in a neutral position, reducing strain on the neck.
3. Place the keyboard and mouse within easy reach. Your child's elbows should be at a 90-degree angle when using them.
4. Encourage your child to take short breaks every 30 minutes to stretch and walk around. This habit helps reduce muscle fatigue and eye strain.

The Long-Term Benefits

By implementing these simple yet effective setup tips, you can help ensure that your child maintains a healthy posture, reducing the risk of developing chronic neck and back pain, and safeguarding their spine as they grow. Good posture goes beyond physical health; it can improve concentration, enhance mood, and boost overall well-being.

Taking a break from the daily grind isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity for your health. 🌞

Holidays offer a unique opportunity to destress, rejuvenate, and break away from routine. This mental and physical respite can significantly reduce stress levels, leading to lower blood pressure, improved sleep patterns, and a boost in mental health.

I quite enjoy staycations as much as going away, but for some they need a change of scenery to allow their mind and body to reset, promoting overall well-being.

Holidays are an easy and enjoyable way to enhance your health. 🏞

How do you find your groove after a long weekend?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Holidays often make you feel out of whack, but instead of feeling like you need to cram into the short week, try to focus on three things:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Why do I feel like all of my "to-dos" HAVE to get done? What can wait and what is TRULY time sensitive?
2️⃣ What was the best part of having an extra day with my loved ones/to myself? {Write it down or say aloud}
3️⃣ Remember that your worth is not determined by your productivity
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What are your best tips?

A sedentary lifestyle can sneak up on us, with long hours of sitting at work or home. This can lead to a variety of health problems, from cardiovascular issues to decreased mental health.

An easy way of improving your health is by simply moving more each day, such as incorporating standing desks and taking regular breaks to combat the effects of a sedentary lifestyle. Set a reminder to do these things if needed.

It's important to stay hydrated while traveling.

Dehydration can cause muscle cramps and stiffness, which can lead to back pain. Make sure to drink plenty of water, especially if you're flying, as the dry air on planes can be dehydrating.

You should aim for half your body weight in ounces every day.

👶 ✈️ Think having a baby means you can't do plane travel? We've got you covered with these 7 baby plane travel tips!
1️⃣ Nurse or give a bottle (or pacifier) at takeoff + landing (it helps their little ears adjust to the pressure!).
2️⃣ Book direct flights whenever possible. Consider choosing flights at their regular nap time or in the evenings, and treat it like normal bedtime (put your kiddo in their pjs and nurse or give a bottle, just like at home).
3️⃣ For babes eating solids, pack easy snacks in spill-proof cups or pouches to keep the mess at bay.
4️⃣ Yep, you'll want to pack your stroller. Take it all the way to the gate, then gate-check it before you board. That way, you have everything you need with you throughout the airport and don’t have to carry your baby for hours. And when baby is ready to be carried, the stroller can roll your bags!
5️⃣ You absolutely must keep an emergency change of clothes in your carry-on WITH you-not in your checked luggage! 😉
6️⃣ Pack age-appropriate entertainment. Consider buying a new small toy they've never seen before and giving it to them for the first time on the plane.
7️⃣ Either pre-board so you can get settled in on the plane or board last so you don't spend more time than necessary in tiny airplane seats. Do what feels right to you!
What are your best baby airplane travel tips? Drop 'em below!
