We are open today. There is a chance for thunderstorms later.

Our policy during storms is that if the staff hears thunder, we close the water for 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder. Grounds remain open.

If the staff sees lightning we close the water and grounds for 30 minutes after the last sighting. Patrons are encouraged to take shelter in the bathhouse. The pavilions cannot be occupied while lightning is in the area.

After 30 minutes the water will be reopened.

Due to increases in costs, our entry fee has gone to $10 per entry, children 3 and under are still free.

We would also like to inform you of our new pavilion policy.
If you would like to sit at one of the tables under a pavilion, you must first make a reservation. To reserve a table you can scan the QR code or click the link below. The tables are first-come first-served. This is the only way to reserve a table. You may not reserve the table over the phone or at the front gate. This policy is in effect 7 days a week. Refunds will be given automatically if the facility is closed due to inclement weather. For all other requests for refunds contact [email protected]

We would like to note that there are dozens of other tables with umbrellas that are available at no extra-charge. Those tables cannot be reserved, they are first-come first-served. You are also welcome to bring chairs and blankets to set up in the grassy areas surrounding the pools.

When I started Lighthouse Pools 20 years ago, I was a Science Teacher at DeMatha Catholic High School and the reason I started this company was to improve Pool Management through increasing the satisfaction, training, competence and confidence of the young people (Lifeguards) we depend on to run places like the Conowingo Swimming Pool. It has been an overwhelming success despite the problems that arise from such a human-related enterprise, but today we lead the industry, in this region, in making Pool facilities Safe, Clean and Enjoyable. Now we run 22 pools like Conowingo.

Today we began renting tables in our three pavilions at the Conowingo Swimming Pool. We did this after careful deliberation over several weeks as we encountered unprecedented demand for the pavilions that were leading consistently to arguments and fights over the use and sharing of the tables and spaces under the pavilions. All too often our staff was being called on to referee arguments, separate physical combatants and call 911 for help from the police! Please know that the average age of my staff is 17 years old, they are lifeguards, and they are not trained for or equipped to handle the demands of the situations they were thrust into.

Lighthouse Pools makes safety its number one priority and as such… The safety of its staff is a priority. If I/we cannot make them safe, then how can they make all the swimmers safe? It’s impossible! So as letters of complaints came in from visitors, both my business partner and I began talking about ways to ameliorate the situation, but when my staff started to talk about not feeling safe and that their parents were talking about them quitting and not being able to work at the pool, we knew we had to act.

As you may, or may not know, we used to rent the pavilions prior to covid, but after covid we chose not to reinstate that policy so that everyone could simply come in and use the pavilions free of charge. If any of this was a money grab, we would have reinstituted the previous rental situation last year, but the logistics of that were such that we felt it was better to have a first come, first served policy and the tables would be free. Imagine our shock when we realized that we inadvertently created a situation that put our staff in danger.

The pricing schedule is not intended to drive revenue… It is intended to increase the number of different parties that can enjoy the pavilions. It is/was our hope/intention that the pricing would dampen demand for the entire pavilion and lead to a greater number of different parties under the pavilions. We simply do not have enough pavilions, or space under the pavilions. The same is true of the pricing for the grills.

To be clear there have been wonderful parties under the pavilions as well, but all too often there has been harsh language, bickering, threats and fights.

Please know that if we wanted to, we could increase revenue by:

Eliminating grills altogether
Banning outside food altogether to drive demand for our snack bar
Raise our entrance fees at a faster rate or by a greater amount
Rent all manner of things like umbrellas, tables not under the pavilions
Renting the pavilion tables, the OTHER 5 DAYS A WEEK!

Lighthouse Pools has been committed, and remains committed, to creating a wonderful place to bring your family. We are committed to doing so at a reasonable price as well.

In many ways we are in unprecedented times. I believe this is part of a larger discussion that affects us outside of the pool as well, but I ask for your patience as we work through the demand of our pavilion space on weekends.
