Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided with Naloxone) 03/07/2018

UPDATE ON THE AFTERNOON SESSIONS: Staff from project Dawn (check out their website: https://www.odh.ohio.gov/health/vipp/drug/ProjectDAWN.aspx) will provide a Naloxone (also known as Narcan) training session at 1:30 pm in Kennedy Union after the luncheon on April 14th for anyone (students, healthcare professionals, or community members) who is interested! If you want to attend this session and receive a free Naloxone kit, register for the symposium at go.udayton.edu/udmvhsymposium and select this session. Those who attend will be instructed on:
-Recognizing the signs and symptoms of overdose
-Distinguishing between different types of overdose
-Performing rescue breathing
-Calling emergency medical services
-Administering intranasal Naloxone
For those who don't know, Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an overdose caused by an opioid drug. Communities are arming citizens with these kits in an effort to provide an accessible way to save the life of someone experiencing an overdose.

Save the Date! The Ninth Annual University of Dayton & Miami Valley Hospital Healthcare Symposium will be held on Saturday, April 14th 2018. The theme is , and will focus on how the Dayton community is addressing the opioid epidemic that has claimed so many lives. Speakers will be discussing topics such as the Neuroscience of Addiction, how Primary Care Physicians can help those who are addicted, and innovative new practices in the Dayton area such as an Opioid Disposal Bag Program.
