LASER -TEC is hosting a webinar reviewing the basics of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) calculation, a statistical figure of merit used to measure the performance of a detector, on August 18th. Interested educators will discuss the factors that affect SNR, the sources of noise, and learn how the applications’ conditions determine the key detector characteristics.

Adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for remote learning, LASER -TEC has developed and manufactured photonics education kits to send to students at every Optics and Photonics College Network (OPCN) college nationwide at no cost to students.
LASER -TEC has received a $1.6 million National Science Foundation grant to support its transition into an Advanced Technological Education Resource Center. The expanded Center will be better positioned to increase the lasers, optics, photonics, and fiber optics technical workforce to meet U.S. Department of Labor projections.
LASER -TEC at is partnering with the Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County and the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign to offer a free Emerging Technologies Summer Camp from June 10 to August 1. The camp features hands-on activities in photonics, robotics, modern electronics and virtual reality! Contact Natalia Chekhovskaya at 772-462-7295 or [email protected] to learn more.
On Saturday our STEM Scholars from across the Heartland traveled to IRSC - Indian River State College for a full day of educational activities including working in the Laser & Optics LASER -TEC lab, learning about applications of robotics, interacting with some awesome Virtual Reality in the VR Lab, and even working with IRSC's Nuclear Power Flow Loop simulator!
LASER -TEC at will host two cutting-edge bootcamps in Spring for young adults to hone advanced technology skills that are fueling innovation and discovery in the 21st century. Give your teen the gift of education this holiday season! Learn more and register today: www.laser-tec.org/bootcamps.

Today there are 113,000 miles of fiber optic cable in the U.S.—with thousands of miles added daily. Trained technicians with up-to-date-skills are needed to keep up with this demand, and LASER -TEC at and Corning Optical recently collaborated to offer a workshop on the basics of fiber optics for instructors attending the Advance Technological Education Conference in Miami, Florida last week. You can learn more at http://www.laser-tec.org.
LASER -TEC recently celebrated the International Day of Light with over 130 students from Glendale Elementary School. Interactive, hands-on activities in the Photonics Lab allowed students to explore the impact of light technologies in every day life, from the way we communicate, shop, diagnose and treat diseases, sustain the environment, and even explore the universe frontiers.
Orlando is preparing the next generation of optics and photonics engineers at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, LASER -TEC and the Laser Photonics Academy at Wekiva High School.
