The Icy Whites are looking sharp! It was a celebratory morning as over 240 of our finest received their first White Coats. TCOM’s Class of 2028 enjoyed this treasured moment with family and friends, congratulations everyone!
White Coats are coming tomorrow, but before that, it’s been a week in the Anatomy lab for TCOM’s Class of 2028. Dr. Scott Maddux and the team from the UNT HSC Center for Anatomical Sciences and HSC School of Biomedical Sciences gave the students an introduction to the Musculoskeletal side of the body. It’s been a busy six weeks for this group, but they will be rewarded tomorrow with their first White Coat!
Proud to call Fort Worth home!

You won’t find a better advocate or friend of DO/PhD programs than Dr. Michael Smith, TCOM’s Year 1 Curriculum Director. Now he’s Co-Chair of the new Osteopathic Physician-Scientists Engagement Network (OPEN) with the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, a group that will support and promote the development and nurturing of physician-scientists. Great work Dr. Smith! 👇

They have been away for a while, but still, plenty of great things are being done by our class of 2025 on rotations. As they inch toward interview season, we can hardly believe Match Day will be here in nearly seven months for this group! Keep up the great work!
Say hello to the American College of Osteopathic Internists August Student Doctor of the Month, TCOM’s Akshat Dayal! The second-year student is willing to help his classmates, he’s a published author and recently was accepted to a cancer study research project. He’s done book signings internationally, and nationally but he’s coming home to Fort Worth this weekend. TCOM’s Dr. Albert Yurvati will be signing copies of his book at Monkey and Dog Books at 2 pm on Saturday, August 17th. Pick up a copy and help support scholarships for TCOM!
One of our longest-standing volunteer efforts, the HOME Clinic, held its first clinic of the school year. This outreach to our friends at True Worth Place and the homeless members of our community saw 23 patients receive help. TCOM second-year students took vitals, and history while others provided OMM with some first-year students learning about the entire operation. So proud to see this clinic going strong!
Some head games for Year 2 students as they were presented with a number of neurological scenarios to unravel in a day of simulations. From getting permission to do a lumbar puncture to unwrapping the pains of a headache. As always, The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth simulation center team put on a top-shelf production for our students!
High school sports season is revving up across the area and TCOM students stepped up to provide a whopping 240 sports physicals this weekend. Second-year students led by Dr. Damon Schranz volunteered at Nolan Catholic High School - Official to offer free physicals. It was also a great chance to show first-year students the essentials of physical exam skills. Terrific work!

The gift of life is simply amazing. Eight years ago, when TCOM graduate Dr. Daniel Erickson signed up for NMDP, he had no idea that one day a call was coming to save a life. It came in the fall of 2021 and Erickson helped save the life of a mother of two kids. Read the astounding story of how it all came together. 👇

Dr. Mason will receive the award at the AOF’s 2024 Honors Gala in San Antonio in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association's OMED conference on September 20. Congratulations Dr. Mason.

Graduate Medical Education programs are thriving at TCOM and our faculty members are a big part of that. Residents from HSC Health and Lake Granbury Medical Center had the chance to work with Dr. David Mason on a variety of topics as they continued their own training but also learned from the best.
A prestigious honor for TCOM third-year student Brittany Uebbing as she was selected by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) as an Emerging Leader Institute Scholar. Uebbing is one of just 30 new scholars comprised of medical students and residents chosen from around the nation.
The scholars will be provided with valuable leadership experiences as they will be paired with a mentor throughout the year, and they will also receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students. Congratulations Brittany!

The new TCOM-affiliated Internal Medicine residency at Paris Regional Health is off and running. We were honored to bring the first class of residents and the program director Dr. Saji Pillai. to campus to meet with faculty and staff. Very excited to see their growth as they lay the foundation for this new residency program!
It was a special evening as TCOM proudly awarded 241 new Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscopes to our Class of 2028. All 241 stethoscopes had a donor through very generous donations. This is the first of many tools they will use to become osteopathic physicians. TCOM’s Stethoscope Program made this possible and we want to thank all of our donors, alumni and friends for making it possible, you are all part of the TCOM family.
When people can’t get health care, you take it to them. TCOM students from our ROME program went to the far corners of West Teas to provide health care on a medical mission trip that was a huge success. They were joined by physical therapy students from the HSC School of Health Professions. The group provided free clinics in Fort Davis, Marathon, Terlingua, and Sanderson. In total, 120 individual patients were seen. Thanks to our partners from UnitedHealthcare, WellPoint and the Texas Rural Health Association for helping make this trip a reality. Great work!
Tier 1 for TCOM! It’s another landmark day as the newest U.S. News and World Report rankings put TCOM as one of only 15 medical schools nationwide to receive this elite ranking for primary care. It’s the second straight year TCOM has been among the top 15 nationwide. This is a credit to our entire faculty, staff, alumni, and students, across the board TCOM is the best!
One of our favorites, Camp Neuro was back as TCOM’s Neurology Club hosted high school students from across Fort Worth. They learned a plethora of topics related to neurology and medicine, which included Cotard’s syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease and so much more. Special thanks to our camp directors and volunteers for putting on an amazing camp!
TCOM second-year student Kush Kinariwala had a spectacular opportunity recently as he was selected for the Greater Boston MSTAR Scholars Program at Harvard Medical School. Along the way, he ran into 2021 TCOM graduate Dr. Dallas Miller who finished up his residency and helped mentor Kush. We love to see the TCOM family working together all across the nation!
Call him a modern version of an old-school family physician who is taking health care directly to the streets of Fort Worth. That’s TCOM graduate Dr. Andrew Saverine who created the unique “Intensive Primary Care Program” at JPS Health Network to help those individuals the most in need. He takes health care to them, no matter the location! 👇

Nine TCOM students were selected to participate in the MSTAR summer research training program. They were mentored by faculty all across The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth as they learned research skills training, did clinical shadowing and gained an understanding of the needs of older adults. The group learned from the best as faculty from the UNT Health Science Center - School of Public Health, HSC School of Biomedical Sciences, along with the community partners that included the James L. West Center for Dementia Care, United Way of Tarrant County’s Area Agency on Aging, Alzheimer's Association, and Overture Home Care. Terrific work everyone!
No one, not two, but three doctoral degrees for TCOM’s Dr Albert Yurvati. The University of Strathclyde in Scotland will bestow an honorary degree of Doctor of Science to Dr. Yurvati later this year to go along with his DO and PhD degrees. He’s done exceptional work his entire career, simply one of the best, congratulations!
Some “advice from a fortune cookie” is how the Class of 2028 got things rolling today on their first day. Year 1 Curriculum Director Dr. Michael Smith lightened the mood with some anecdotal wisdom, but they dove quickly into Medical Practice and the history of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. It was a great start!
