The Georgia State Bar held their Annual Meeting over the weekend on Amelia Island. SGWM attorney Brent Hatcher concluded his first year serving on the Bar’s Board of Governors, and Matt Caudell graduated from the Young Lawyers Division Leadership Academy. We are so proud of both of you!

The Arts Council held their largest fundraiser of the year on Saturday, and we were happy to show our support. We love being a part of the vibrant Hall County community and giving back.

It was an honor to celebrate and support Gateway Domestic Violence Center as they exceeded their fundraising goal for a new van for transportation. For 40 years, Gateway has provided safety and support for individuals impacted by domestic violence. Their amazing staff and Board of Directors have made a tremendous impact on Hall County.

The SGWM team had a wonderful time participating in the 15th annual Chamber Chase 5K and 2 Mile Wellness Walk! Thank you to all the corporate and community teams that organized the Get Fit Stay Fit Corporate Challenge.

Smith, Gilliam, Williams & Miles is proud to announce the 50th anniversary of attorney Steven P. Gilliam! After graduating from the University of Georgia Law School, Steve began practicing law in Gainesville, Georgia with the firm. He has been involved in the Hall County community in many different capacities, including being chosen Young Man of the Year by the Gainesville Jaycees and Man of the Year by the Gainesville Rotary Club. He has chaired the Chattahoochee Country Club, Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, Rehabilitation Industries of Northeast Georgia, United Way of Hall County, Eagle Ranch, the Gainesville College Foundation, and Elachee Nature Science Center. Additionally, Steve was the first alum of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School to be elected Chair of the Board of Trustees. Steve also carried the Olympic Torch in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Professionally he has been awarded the Nestor Award from the Georgia Legal History Foundation for service to the Bench and Bar, selected as a Master of the prestigious Carley/Clarke Inn of Court in Atlanta, and chaired the Professionalism Committee of the State Bar of Georgia for five years. Nationally, he is recognized in the Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and a Georgia Super Lawyer since its inception in 2004. In his spare time, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, and has been an avid hiker, runner, backpacker, fly-fisherman, hunter, white water kayaker, and golfer. SGWM is immensely honored to be a part of Steve’s wonderful career.
