Kayleigh Friend is a Master of Arts in Education student at Stockton University, a special education teacher at Port Republic School, a paddleboarder, surfer and ocean-minded human.

She got to be teacher, student and ocean lover all at once to celebrate World Ocean Day last week.

Friend partnered with Steve Evert, director of the Stockton Marine Field Station in Port Republic, to organize a day of marine science activities for the entire Port Republic School.

Dylan Viet and Marley Bingham, 2024 Language & Culture Studies ( ) graduates, were selected for the competitive Teaching Assistant Program in France ( ), which is run through the Cultural Services division of the French Embassy in the U.S.

gives recent graduates the opportunity to work as assistants to English teachers in a French elementary, middle or high school, providing students with a perspective on American culture.

“It is a very competitive application process, and there are strict proficiency requirements. Both Dylan and Marley surpassed those requirements and were selected. This is a point of pride for the LCST program,” Kory Olson, professor of French, shared. 💙

“I'm really looking forward to making a difference in children's days by teaching them English... and skiing and traveling as much as I can on my days off!” Viet said. ⛷️

“I'm so happy I got the position – a piece of me has been missing since I left , and I can't wait to discover it again through this program,” Bingham said. “Language, teaching and culture have always been addictive, and now that's my job!” 🌍

Walking into June like 🚶🏽‍♂️☀️

shellebrating marine invertebrates. B.J. Bingham collected shells for four decades, sharing them with local enthusiasts from her home exhibit in Vineland, but she wanted their impact to reach further. She chose Stockton as the new home for her collection, which gives students the opportunity to curate a campus display.

Bingham donated thousands of shells from around the world to where Camilla Alves Souto, assistant professor of Marine Science, has been organizing them with students. Many of the shells are from St. Croix, an island in the Caribbean, where she and her husband stayed at a remote field station for research.

Recent graduate, DJ Campbell, was highlighted in the Press of AC for something other than his record breaking basketball season.

DJ boasted a 4.0 GPA in his final semester as an , leaving his dad smiling ear-to-ear.

What is your favorite memory at Lake Fred?

Today we remember and honor our nation's brave heroes.

Where is the sand on our beaches 🏖️ coming from and where is it going? Anna Pfeiffer-Herbert, who goes by Dr. pH, is studying currents with the to see where sand is moving and why it’s collecting in certain locations.

High School students spent the day at the .marine.field.station to see how she and other marine science professors conduct research.

🍊Students got crafty and turned oranges into drifters, which are floating devices that describe how a current is flowing. They tossed their drifters into Nacote Creek to see who developed the best combination of buoyancy, stability and windage (the best designs catch the current not the wind). Drifters can be used in search and rescue, tracking oil spills and marine debris, determining where stunned sea turtles might float to and studying how plankton moves.

🦀 Students got a lesson in flying an ROV across the bottom of the seafloor and using sonar to search for shipwrecks and abandoned crab pots with Stephen Nagiewicz and Mark Sullivan.

🦅Being out on the water brought students into osprey habitat where they witnessed a nesting pair in a platform.

The Teen Arts Festival came to Downtown Hammonton last week and Stockton University in Hammonton at Kramer Hall and the Noyes Museum of Art of Stockton University hosted a variety of creative opportunities for students to network and share their talents.

Students made cyanotype sun prints, performed and got feedback from professors and area experts, displayed their visual art and made new connections.

Art is helping Maryn Skylar Olson heal from a traumatic brain injury, and now it's giving her a way to communicate the importance of wearing a helmet for sports. She plans to paint her message on helmets.
