UV SAFETY MONTH:

According to the National Cancer Institute there has been over 100,000 new cases of melanomas and over 8,200 related deaths so far THIS YEAR!

Tips to Lower your risks of Sunburns, Skin Cancer and Early Aging:

☀ Avoid the sun at the most UV intense time of the day, between 11 AM - 3 PM
👚 Cover exposed skin with long sleeved shirts, pants, and broad brimmed hats
🧴Wear broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and reapply every 2 hours
😎 Protect your eyes! Sunlight reflection off sand, water, concrete can increase UV radiation to your eyes.

Happy National Therapeutic Week!

This health related observance is celebrated THIS WEEK to bring awareness of different health related recreation programs and services that are available in the community.

Therapeutic recreation can be services such as PT, OT and SLP to help patients regain function and skills required to improve and manage disabilities.

However, other activities such as Tai Chi, pickle ball, golf, and soccer are considered a therapeutic activities that help turn leisure time to a physical and mental health benefiting hobby.

In celebration of celebrating our country's Independence, the Clinic will be closed today as we celebrate with family and friends! We will resume normal business hours July, 5th at 7am!!

HOW TO EXERCISE SAFELY IN HOT WEATHER!

Acclimate yourself: gradually introduce activity in hot climates over a 1-2 week process to reduce potential heat related illnesses.

Hydrate: If you are thirsty, Drink Water. Aim for half of your body weight in ounces, i.e. 160 pound person should drink 80 oz of water a day, more if working in the heat.

Replenish electrolytes, carbohydrates and protein: "Increased sweat causes an increased loss of sodium and other electrolytes, so restoring those with powdered electrolytes mixes, such as LMNT Zero-Sugar Electrolytes, dissolved in water is necessary in hot weather. Gatorade or other sports drinks that may contain a lot of sugar aren't necessary for most athletes"

Cool Off: After working out in the heat, cool down in an air conditioned area, take a cold shower and/or drink something ice cold.
