🌟 Community Service Spotlight: Martha's House in Hermiston 🌟

Last Friday, Blue Mountain Community College Hermiston participated in a meaningful community service project at Martha's House. We joined hands to prepare shelter studios for families who will soon be occupying them. It was a privilege to contribute to creating welcoming and comfortable spaces for those in need.

For those who may not be familiar, Martha's House is a vital organization in our community dedicated to providing shelter and support to families facing housing challenges. This half-day Forklift Safety Training covers laws and standards related to forklift operation, daily forklift and area inspection, stability, key components, load engagement, stacking and tiering, refueling/recharging, traveling, understanding load rating charts, signaling, and dealing with job site and electrical hazards.
This workshop includes classroom instruction, exam, and skills test.

Course Highlight!
DRF112 Computer Aided Drafting is being offered Spring Term 2024 IN PERSON with a chance to experience the technology at the Hermiston Think Big Space. A Zoom option is available with occasional lab visits for those who cannot attend in person each week. This course is a 3-credit CTE Elective instructed by John Fisher on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at our Hermiston location.

DRF112 has been developed for people interested in mechanical design, welding, or industrial design. The class introduces students to 2D drafting using AutoCAD and 3D modeling using Onshape. All projects will include designing with intent and creating specific drawings and models with an end user in mind. The course will also provide an overview of 3D printing technology, materials, and workflows, resulting in students modeling parts and setting up 3D prints using free 3D slicer software. Students will learn the basics of two-dimensional layout and notation and develop their spatial visualization skills, increasing their ability to design for residential and commercial spaces and products. Participants in the course will also learn how to read and draw industrial and welding prints—making this a perfect class for people interested in becoming professional welders or working in an industrial environment.

The BMCC Nursing program offers small class sizes and student support throughout the rigorous curriculum. Nursing students receive hands-on training, including high-fidelity simulation and clinical experience with our local employers.

Looking to get your Flagger Certification? We have you covered! BMCC Hermiston will be hosting a Work Zone Traffic Control/Flagger Workshop in March.

When: Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This workshop covers the practices, behaviors, and equipment needed to maintain a safe, smooth flow of traffic on and near construction sites. Course topics include:
• Fundamentals of work zone safety
• Traffic Control plans
• Work zone design
• Basic Traffic controls
• Installation and removal of traffic control devices
• Highway traffic administration
• Work practice controls
• Personal Protective Equipment
This workshop includes instruction, all references, and books for the certification. Upon successful passage of the exam, students will receive a flagger card valid for three years from the date of issue without renewal. Card is good in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Participants must be 18 years old or older.

The 2024-2025 Application for BMCC Foundation Scholarships is open on the WolfWeb-Student Portal. BMCC has multiple open part-time positions including a Diesel Lab Technician and Part-Time Professional Bilingual Tutor.

The Diesel Lab Technician is responsible for assisting the Diesel Technology program, prepares laboratories and participates in the delivery of the actual lab instruction and student supervision, student assistance and instructor assistance.

The Bilingual Professional Tutor provides group and individual tutoring support to students, both individually, in small groups, online, and through Zoom for various academic levels.
