SLANIC SALT MINE (Salina Unirea), Slănic, Prahova, Romania

Slănic Mine is an old salt mine located in Slănic, Prahova County, Romania, 100 km north of Bucharest. The salt mine is closed for extraction purposes but is open for visitors, featuring a microclimate with natural air-conditioning and constant temperature and atmospheric pressure throughout the year. It is made up of two levels, named Unirea and Mihai. Many visitors come for its supposed healing effects due to the purity of the air. Throughout the mine, you will find various types of equipment for recreational activity, such as playground equipment and some ping-pong tables. One area is sectioned off and is used for medical patients with lung cancer to come and rest. The main elevator shaft is unique because it has no metallic parts due to rust. After an elevator accident in 2014, minivans are used to spiral visitors up and down.

Since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed on the last Monday of May.

However, the roots of Memorial Day, then known as Decoration Day, date back to the Civil War era. Local commemorations, the first of which were organized by women and African Americans, would lay flowers on the graves of soldiers who perished during the war.

The World's Largest Doomsday Bunker Community An army bunker from the 1900s is up for sale for less than $70,000. It became the subject of Reddit conversations because of its location in the “world’s largest doomsday bunker community.”

I'm looking forward to seeing this new interpretive display.

Check it out! The Port of Everett has completed the first phase of a new interpretive exhibit at its Waterfront Center to memorialize the historic Equator. The display features a timeline of her storied career, historic images and a map of her many journeys across the seas.

The Port will soon add to the display with a scale model of her first life as a trading schooner, vessel artifacts, a multimedia area to share more history and photos, and a commissioned sculpture by Seattle-based artist John Grade made with pieces of her salvaged timbers.

Pre-1950 homes were built with alleys and garages and vehicles were built behind the home. The front of the home was for socialization with the neighborhood. Then, home styles changed. No more alleys. Garages were attached to the side of the home. The back yards got fenced and walled off from the neighbors. Rather than socialize on the front porch, we moved to our private patios and decks.
