A Statement from Scott Pullins, Civil and Personal Attorney for Former Ohio Speaker Larry Householder

Mount Vernon, Ohio – Former Ohio Speaker Larry Householder was arraigned and pled Not Guilty today in a case that should have never been brought, in a county where it doesn’t belong, that is at most a Misdemeanor, where the Statute of Limitations has long ago run. The similarities to the political prosecution of Donald Trump by Alvin Bragg in New York City are eerily similar.

This investigation and the charges are a blatant abuse of legal authority and taxpayer dollars. There is no prohibition under Ohio law that prevents a candidate or officeholder from using campaign funds to pay for criminal attorneys to defend against campaign or public office related charges. The sole authority is a handful of old Advisory Opinions from the Ohio Elections Commission that are not binding on the courts. In fact, federal law and many state laws recognize that campaign funds may be used to defend against criminal charges that arise solely because of actions taken as an officeholder and/or candidate.

Dave Yost knows this. That’s why he brought two complaints against Mr. Householder and the campaign committee in the Ohio Elections Commission nearly four years ago. The Ohio Elections Commission, under statute, has sole authority over the matter of the legal fees.

AG (Aspiring Governor) Dave Yost has proven time and time again that he hates the First Amendment. Let’s not forget that during the civil litigation over HB 6 he attempted to impose an unconstitutional gag order over Larry Householder that would have prevented him from talking about HB 6 or any other matter while he was amid his re-election campaign. In his own words, Yost brought these charges in order to prevent Mr. Householder from being able to run for or otherwise serve in public office if his federal appeal is successful.

We are very confident in the criminal defense team that has been assembled. We hope the public will soon recognize this case as what it is, a political vendetta brought by an overly aggressive and ambitious AG (Aspiring Governor). Thank you.

Mount Vernon council nixes human trafficking legislation LMTs pushed back against legislation they said was unnecessary, poorly written, and insulting to licensed massage therapists.

If you are planning on attending or watching the Mount Vernon City Council legislative committee tonight on the "massage parlor" legislation, then be prepared for a Amber Keener dog and pony show. Don't be fooled. We don't have a human trafficking problem in Knox County. There are no massage parlors and no prostitution issues.

This legislation is about two things. First, giving the Health Department new authority to inspect law abiding businesses. And second, incompetent, attention seeking politicians who want to look like they are doing things. We should have learned from the COVID shutdowns that the Health Department doesn't need any more authority.

Way too many people running for the Ohio House, including my likely opponent, think they are running for Congress.

It's not Congress folks.

The Ohio General Assembly must pass a balanced budget. No deficits. No printing money. No continuing resolutions.

As the late, great Representative Bob Netzley used to say, state government primarily spends taxpayer dollars on three things. They educate, they incarcerate, and they medicate.

They also pass laws. And sadly, many of the "reforms" that have passed over the years, i.e. term limits, campaign finance reform, redistricting reform, etc. have been utter and complete disasters.

Knox County Prosecutor sets Ohio law precedent in s*x-offender case MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio Supreme Court upheld a three-year, nine-month sentence in a Knox County case that set precedent for s*x offender registration violations.

I am very happy to report that the Ohio Elections Commission did not take up a settlement proposal in the Joe Blystone cases today. Instead, after a brief discussion they unanimously voted to schedule a full evidentiary hearing for January 5, 2023. I will post the video from the meeting today when the Commission staff upload it.

Tomorrow at 10am at the Ohio Elections Commission, Joe Blystone will allegedly be offered a sweetheart deal to avoid prosecution for his campaign finance violations. The deal includes the following:

1. A fine of $30,000 paid to the Ohio Elections Commission.
2. An agreement not to run again for office for a period of 4 years from tomorrow.
3. His remaining campaign funds, approximately $120,000, will be donated to the Blystone Agricultural Society, Inc. his personal nonprofit organization.

On behalf of my client, Sarah Chambers, I have objected to this deal and have requested to address the commission on her behalf. It reeks of corruption. Mr. Blystone will be able to easily convert these funds to personal use. Anything less than a referral to prosecution makes a farce of this process.
