CPAAA-WHO WE ARE
The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association has been around for over 30 years! There are chapters all over the United States from Anchorage Alaska to Tallahassee Florida. Different chapters serve their police departments in different ways, but the one thing we all have in common is that we all see the need to support our police officers and law enforcement. Eight years ago today, a former San Angelo Police Department officer was shot and killed in the line of duty for Austin PD while responding to a call about a suspicious intoxicated person at a North Austin Walmart.
Both our cities and the law enforcement community lost a hero. A family lost a son and brother, and two young girls lost their daddy. Officer Jaime Padron made the ultimate sacrifice. He is gone but will never, ever be forgotten. We miss you, brother.
Last night, San Angelo Police received a call for service from a woman who was self-quarantined due to pre-existing non-COVID-19 related illnesses and diabetes. The woman had not eaten in two days and was in need of groceries.
Officers Rodriguez, Dominguez, Asebedo, and Sgt. LaJoie decided to pool their money together to get several weeks’ worth of groceries for the woman. The woman was grateful for their kindness and so are we. The officers would also like to thank the staff at Market Street for their assistance.
Times are challenging, and we are all looking for answers when it comes to COVID-19. Our officers may not have the answers or the cure, but they have servants’ hearts the size of Texas.
Catch our CPAAA President on KLST's Concho Valley Live at 4pm today talking about the Citizens Police Academy and our Alumni Association!

To assist our citizens with child custody arrangements and online exchanges, the San Angelo Police Department has designated two parking spots as a “Safe Exchange Zone” at Police Headquarters.
The spots are located towards the southeast side of the north (public) parking lot, 401 E. Beauregard.
Although the Department’s Headquarters parking lot has been informally used for years to make child custody exchanges, the Department is publicly inviting parents and guardians as well as online buyers and sellers to use this newly designated area for in-person exchanges.
The Safe Exchange Zone is designated by signs and will be well-lit at all hours of the day so that members of the public can trade legal items, including internet sales, or conduct child custody exchanges in a safe atmosphere promoted by our police-protected and camera-monitored environment.
If you cannot use the San Angelo Police Department’s Safe Exchange Zone, please always keep these safety tips in mind:
Use a public parking lot that is well-lit and under surveillance.
Never go alone, there is safety in numbers! Bring a friend or family member with you.
Always let others, friends or family, know where you are going, what you are doing, and what time you are meeting.
Don’t meet at your home and never agree to transactions occurring at night.
Call 911 immediately in an emergency!
San Angelo Police are conducting a Deadly Conduct/Shots Fired Investigation in the 1900 block of Live Oak Street. The incident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. If you live in the area and have surveillance footage or if you were in the area and you observed suspicious activity please call (325) 657-4315. Gov. Abbott honors first responders at 2019 Star of Texas Awards
San Angelo Police Sgt. Korby Kennedy was among the honorees at the 2019 Star of Texas Awards held this morning in Austin.
Gov. Abbott honors first responders at 2019 Star of Texas Awards The ceremony honored 50 first responders who lost their lives or were seriously injured in the line of duty.
I would like to thank everyone for the positive reinforcement on a series of actions taken on July 7th, 2019. The award I received was a great honor and I hope I represented this department as best as possible.
I would like to address a thought that has remained in my mind since the publication of this award began. I know this phrase is uttered often when people are presented awards but I truly am not the only one that should be mentioned in this event as I do not believe there was one particular action taken that was the shining moment; rather a series of steps taken by well-trained individuals. From the actions taken by the people aboard the vessel, the first officer on scene, the officers on the water, the paramedics, the attending medical staff, and the supportive family during the entire event. All of these pieces are but mere links in a crucial chain of survival. If one of these elements is removed the next cannot be taken. Therefore, solidifying each individual action as crucial.
It is a true honor to work with amazing professionals on a daily basis. I wish the young lady a speedy recovery and wish her family the absolute best. Again thank you to everyone that has shown their support and it is an amazing experience to serve this community.
Thank you,
Officer C. Herrington
