SBO's Research Director, Derek Yocum, PhD, recently authored a new paper on the biomechanical changes in lower extremity function following bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty!

This article expands on his previous research into the principal component differences in gait of unilateral and bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty patients.

Monday kicked off MRI Safety Week which is a universally recognized week devoted to educating patients about safe practices within MRI.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive imaging technology that uses a very powerful magnet to produce images and non-ionizing radiation is used.

SBO providers use this procedure to assess and diagnosis conditions related to the musculoskeletal system which includes, bones, joints, muscles, tendons ligaments, and other structures.

🧲The magnet is ALWAYS on, even when the scanner is not making noise.

🔊Noises that exceed 70 decibels can be harmful. The noises from an MRI can range from 65-130 decibels, which is why SBO requires every patient to wear ear plugs during their scans.

🔥According to the FDA, second degree burns are the most reported MRI injury.
SBO provides pads that are about a half inch thick or more to separate your skin from the walls of the MRI scanner.

🎉Employee Shoutout 🎉 Please join us as we congratulate, Kathleen Parker, on her successful completion of passing the Hand Therapy Certification Examination.
She is now a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).

The requirements to become a CHT involve a significant time commitment both in the clinic and studying outside of working hours.
✅ It takes a minimum of at least 3 years of practice as a licensed OT or PT.
✅ A minimum of 4,000 hours of Direct Practice Experience in hand therapy.

According to the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) the average passing rate over the last 10 years is 58%.
There are roughly 6,000 CHTs in the United States, with most of them being OTs.

She is a tremendous asset to the SBO organization and a wonderful Occupational Therapy Manager!
