What does safety mean to you? Safety involves both looking after ourselves as well as loved ones and our communities. It can be booking that doctor's appointment you've been putting off, teaching someone how to change a tire, or advocating for a positive change in your neighborhood or city. June is and we invite everyone reading this to perform at least one deliberate act of safety this month for either yourself or others. Individual actions may not feel like much, but together they can add up to momentous changes that transform entire societies for the better.

Liberty and equality are only concepts unless we extend them to every human being, regardless of skin color. By drawing deep dividing lines based on race generations of pain and misconceptions about the value of individual life were ingrained into America. It is a battle we continue to fight to this day, a complex struggle to support every African American on their journey to living in a fully open and embracing society. From all of us at Intermountain, we wish you a filled with reflection and meaningful action. May we all continue to take the essential steps to ensure that equality thrives in our words, actions, and policies for every human being.

If we truly accept that all humans have the right to love and be loved, then we must reflect on the struggles that some groups have gone through, and continue to face to this day. This Pride month, we invite you to consider alongside us what a truly universal, equitable society looks like. For decades LGBQT+ individuals, organizations, and allies have continued to expand our understanding of the value of accessible social services, health care, and resources for everyone. We wish you a full of reflection, meaningful action, and allyship as we all work towards a future where love, and its accompanying civil rights, is recognized as a basic, universal necessity.

Healthy vision is something many of us take granted. We often lose track of how nearly-miraculous it is to see our family members, appreciate a sunset, or stare in awe at the milky way at night. With May being we want to encourage you to look after your eyesight, to treasure it and consider getting it checked if you haven't in awhile. Small maintenance measures can go a long way in preventing gradual decline or any pressing issues that may require attention.

Exercise. It's a word some of us love, while others shudder at. But did you know that exercise can play a powerful role in supporting ? Many types of exercise release endorphins, help regulate serotonin, and calm the nervous system. Always consult with your primary or physician before beginning any new type of intervention, but with so many different ways to support mental health through movement we encourage you to explore what is out there for you!

This year Arizona will likely have 43 cases of melanoma skin cancer per 100,000 residents. Compared to the national average of 29, that's an extremely significant number. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer, but any untreated cancer can be a threat to one's wellbeing and life. As the summer months creep upon us, we want to PSA the value of taking care of your skin, including regular hydration and sunscreen. If you have a history of extreme sunburns, genetic predispositions, or notice an unusual mark on your skin take the time to let a medical professional know. A small measure of prevention pays dividends when it comes to keeping ourselves safe and healthy.

The question of what to do about is one of the most pressing issues the world is facing. Innovations offer hope, while misinformation clouds the conversation. Rates of depression continue to climb every decade, and while novel treatments promise an easier future for a variety of behavioral health conditions there are still large gaps in support units, especially for low socio-economic and traditionally underserved populations. May is and we invite you to consider this topic from a variety of angles. How is your own mental health, and that of your loved ones and friends? How is the mental health of the nation, and what can we do to improve it? From reaching out for help to lending your voice, every little bit makes a difference in this profound journey, and struggle, we all share in ensuring everyone, regardless of their background, can access life-impacting treatments and support units.

Every day many of our compassionate staff and clinicians interface with youth from all backgrounds and walks of life, from the students diagnosed with at our Intermountain Academy to the young people in foster care we work with. Many of these incredible youth come from challenging backgrounds and a large percentage have experienced some form of abuse or neglect. April is , and we have seen firsthand just how important impactful resources and support units are for children who are either struggling with or have endured the harsh circumstances of abuse or neglect. If you know a child who is going through something, or are yourself experiencing abuse, don't be silent about it. It is true it does take a village, but sometimes a single act of being willing to communicate is all that is needed to begin the process of healing and receiving the care you deserve. Together we can all be a unit of support for the children in our communities who need us most.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and yet due to generations of systemic barriers many of our most unique and historic populations have developed predispositions to numerous health conditions. Some of these are poverty-related, while others can be observed in the mental health conditions more prevalent in underserved communities. More than 50% of our patient members identify as a member of a minority race or ethnicity, making it essential for our clinicians and staff to understand their unique and varied experiences. April is , and we remain committed to doing everything we can to continue being there for the populations and communities who can benefit the most from our impactful services.

Pickle Palooza is next week! Did we really just say that? Indeed we did, and to top it off...our silent auction is open and off to a great start! You can keep bidding on our fantastic array of items, which will run from now until it closes at 8:30pm next Thursday, April 18th. Winners can either pick up their item at the event itself or, for those not attending who still wish to bid, at our administrative offices the following week.

We've saved some of the best items for last, so this week get ready to first travel the world with this exciting vacation to Costa del Sol, in magical Southern Spain! Spend seven nights in Andalusia with unforgettable music, food, and culture. Since touring is on the menu, why not also tour the galaxy with this incredibly rare signed Star Wars helmet? Abrams and George Lucas. There really are few things in the entire galaxy like this. Since we're on the subject of priceless autographs, how about an autographed Rolling Stones guitar, signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman?

It's no understatement to say we've gone all out for this auction, and if that's what we did with the auction, just imagine what we're doing with the event?
