How To Paint: Sardines in Acrylic

Here is another subject that will inspire your artistic drive. A painting study of sardines done in acrylic.

Sardine is one of the most prevalent fish. Sometimes sardines end up in a local delicacy known as "tuyo" or dried fish -- a Filipino favorite.

Painting a scaly fish is an interesting challenge. The shiny character of the scales can be reduced into large area, rather than painting each in detail. Acrylic is a perfect medium to render this subject because of the fast drying time and it is easy to accommodate thin glazes to render the yellowish tint of the scales.

Adding up a dark background would make the fish stand out in this painting study.

Working in more than one color is a very good exercise that will develop your eye in creating the illusion of three dimensional space in a flat surface.
