Hidden sodium:
Do you know ? Sodium is not only found in canned meat ( including cold cuts, sausages, caviar..), salted nuts, canned beans, tomato paste, canned gravy, and of-course table salt.. but also hidden in other food products.
In a systematic review conducted in may 2020, investigating the sources of dietary salt across the globe, they have listed countries identified to have more than 50% of the daily salt intake comes from salt added during cooking or at the table which are Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Guatemala, India, Japan, Mozambique, and Romania. “
However, bread and bakery products, cereal and grain products, meat, and dairy products happen to be the main contributors to daily salt intake *globally* and are considered as key food groups that should be targeted for salt-reformulation efforts.
