SAF will play a leading role in the international aviation community’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. But SAF uptake remains sluggish because of limited supply and availability, and its high cost.

There is a system that simultaneously reduces carbon emissions and encourages more SAF production, Book and Claim.

In 2023, the integration of innovative technologies such as electric aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and automation was the strongest yet and we saw business aviation companies invest more in sustainable technologies and practices to further reduce the impact of air travel on the environment and meet the goals of carbon neutrality by 2050.

2023 was a year of impressive progress, we should all be proud!

At the beginning of last year, I speculated on what 2023 would hold for business aviation. Almost a year later, I’m looking at those predictions with the benefit of hindsight and reflecting on another significant year for our industry.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of attending the third ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) as an observer.

Being part of the IBAC Business Aviation delegation, alongside esteemed individuals such as Kurt Edwards, Director General of IBAC, Ali Al Alnaqbi, Chair of the IBAC Governing Board and Chair of the Middle East & North Africa Business Aviation (MEBAA), and Capt. Claude Hurley, Director of IBAC Environment and Flight Operations, Kennedy Ricci President of 4Air, Miguel F. Garcia Claro Product Sustainability Strategy & Environmental Affairs at Bombardier, Marc L. Ehudin Director of Government Affairs at GAMA made the experience even more meaningful.

During the conference, we emphasized the urgent need for heightened accessibility and affordability of sustainable aviation fuels, as they are fundamental to our united efforts in achieving our net-zero goal.

Reaching our 2050 decarbonization goals remains a top priority for the international business aviation community, and the clock continues to tick.
