Training outdoors in hot and humid conditions can be tough. But fear not! We've got you covered with practical tips to make the most of your sessions while staying cool and safe. 💪
💦 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Start well-hydrated and sip on electrolyte-rich fluids throughout your session. Add a pinch of salt to your water to keep those minerals balanced. Stay hydrated to maintain optimal performance.
❄️ Keep cool! Use cold water to cool off your face and head. Plan ahead with a cool box and ice packs to beat the heat during your workout.
⏱️ Adjust your pace expectations! Heat and humidity can affect your pace and effort level. Slow down, take breaks, and let your body adapt to the conditions.
⏰ Time your workouts wisely! Avoid exercising during the hottest part of the day. Find the best time that suits your schedule and keeps you comfortable.

DO YOU WANT TO SWIM FASTER WITH LESS EFFORT? 🏊
📝 These are the 5 key points that could slow you down.
1️⃣ Body position
To minimise drag, a swimmer should sit high up in the water with the head, shoulders, hips and feet horizontal. Swimmers with a low body position creates a lot of extra drag which significantly slows them down
2️⃣ Kicking
In most cases, it is not realistic to achieve leg kick propulsion as it requires a very high level of ankle flexibility (which can lead to lower leg running injuries) and creates a lot of fatigue in the legs, which would harm the bike and run disciplines.
3️⃣ Breathing
Triathletes should exhale under the water in a consistent and relaxed manner. When the swimmer breathes they simply rotate their head along with their body; the head surfaces for a split second only to breathe-in as they have already exhaled under the water. A not ideal breathing technique results in you swimming out of breath.
4️⃣ Catch
To help set up an effective catch with a high elbow, the hand enters half way between full extension and the head. Once the hand enters the water and reach out without letting the elbow drop. Here you should feel like you are tipping the fingertips over a barrel or pressing the forearm into the water. At the same time the elbow begins to bend and the hand and forearm will press back on the water with the forearm reaching a near vertical position.
5️⃣ Mobility / strength
It’s important to distinguish technical mistakes from problems relating to the mechanics of motion. All the practice in the world will only reinforce bad technique if you struggle with mechanical limitations. A prime example is the “high elbow catch”. If you lack the proper mobility in the shoulder you simply cannot perform the high elbow catch.

Khodor started his journey with BR in April 2019. When he joined, coach could instantly see his potential. And so, we set a long-term plan to allow him to build his triathlon fitness over the coming years.
Triathlon requires a lot of commitment and discipline, but Khodor is one of those athletes that loves the process. His ability to persist through hard task and search for those small gains is second to none. We are very proud of everything he has achieved and we can't wait to be a part of the rest of his journey!
