A CREATIVE result of their BOREDOM!

Very often, CREATIVITY sparks when we get SPACE…nothing to do…nowhere to go…space to pause … go within …think….and as we are left there , it comes to us …like a gift flying in!

« HOW IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH BOREDOM? » …I ask the parents when they’re not sure how to deal with the complaining of their kids being bored .
« What do you tell them when they come to you bored ? »
What did your mum used to tell you when you complained of boredom ?
« Go find something to do or how about you do that »?
« Are you catching yourself doing the same? »

Let’s reflect for a minute !
DO YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WHEN YOU GET TO THE SPACE WHERE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO?
How do you deal with boredom ? Do you see boredom as a positive state or a state that requires changing, escaping ?

Sit with these questions for a while and reflect on how you respond to your children when they come to you.
I had to do the same!
Resisting the urge to fix their state because of their discomfort.
NOT NEEDED!
They are naturally resourceful and whole to push through the discomfort and become creative if they get the space to do so.

In this fast paced world, BOREDOM is a gift we shall allow, welcome and cherish!
So If CREATIVITY is an important value we want to offer our kids, then we want to allow SPACE for BOREDOM in their schedules!

Busy schedules filled with ECA’s and structured play are a creativity-killer disabling our kids to practice BEING WITH THEMSELVES.

So next time your child comes to you feeling bored try « hey that’s great, you’re all free , I am sure something will come to you . »
