My name is Puran Singh Mehra, my friends call me Bawa. I belong to a small district called Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, coming from a middle class family.

We were two sisters & two brothers. My elder brother works in the Indian Army. I also wanted to join the Indian Army but didn’t end up qualifying. I was heartbroken but thought that maybe life had other plans for me.

I always had an affinity towards food, having lived a farmer’s life, so I took up Hotel Management. After my degree, I went to Pune looking for job - I faced a lot of hardships and problems during this period. I couldn’t make enough to bring back to my family. I was young & lost. I got my passport made and then again, came back to Mumbai to apply for jobs. I started giving a lot of interviews for other countries, including gulf countries. Finally, something clicked & I got a job as a Junior Chef in Abu Dhabi in 2015. In 2017 I interviewed with The Bhukkad Café in Dubai & immediately got hired.

I was there at the opening, and I have seen the 2 hour queues. I have seen the management work alongside us in the kitchen, to make this work.

Now I am a Senior Chef - my life has changed a lot - In the last 3 years, I got married, got my wife to come here (she’s a nurse & works to support us) & just this year, I was blessed with a baby girl. I got myself an apartment & it is all thanks to my life at TBC. The management has been supportive in all my decisions so far & has been my family away for home. The Bhukkad Café is going places with franchising & I want to travel the world with TBC. Maybe my next destination with be London - who knows?

I was born in Gujarat in a small city called Vijapur and was brought up in a girls’ hostel. In the 7th grade, I moved to Mumbai to help my family financially right from a very young age. I was helping my father in our business and studying simultaneously. By 2012, I left my studies completely because of financial strain and working part time just was not enough. So, I joined Dominos full-time. As I became slightly better with earning my own money, I re-started my studies & finished my 12th grade in 2017. I decided to educate myself with work experiences & contribute to every task I had. I was eager to take on more responsibilities and I started getting recognition for my work.

For my next leg up towards my career, I started applying for jobs in other countries - I worked in Abu Dhabi & Bahrain for short periods of time but wasn’t completely happy. There was another low point in my life when I thought of giving up. Finally, I got on a flight to Dubai without a job in hand and despite COVID-19 times, I got to meet with the team at The Bhukkad Café. It was a miracle that I was on a visit visa and within 3 days, I was offered a position at The Bhukkad Cafe and it’s been almost a year since then. I am ecstatic with whatever is happening in my life & this job has literally fulfilled my dreams.

Today I have everything, and I am hungry to learn & grow more. With The Bhukkad Café now franchising, I hope to be an integral part of the growth team. At The Bhukkad Café, no one looks at where you came from, only where you want to go.
