Petrela Castle is located on a rocky hill at an altitude of 400 m above sea level. 
Since ancient times, this fortress controlled the crossroads of economic and military importance which passed near by, as this segment branch of Via Egnatia, Durres-Tirana-Elbasan, which for the time was of particular importance.

The largest in the Balkan’s and also adorned with pretty natural spots.

On the way to Permet, the so called city of flowers, we encounter the historical Vjosa river. It is flowing from the northern Greek maintains reaching Albania’s Adriatic Sea. Vjosa remains the only river in EU that still runs free along its chosen path.
