It's astonishing how difficult I find it to transform my thoughts into turquoise but by looking down to Haukland Beach all memories turn into words. On my first journey to the Lofoten islands, I definitely did not expect to find long sections of white sandy beaches and a turquoise ocean. Would you?

Sildpollnes- Church is a parish church whose origin goes back to 1891. Restored in 1961 and because the church is so close to the main road, it is a major attractive tourist spot. Sildpollen sjøcamp lays just next to the church in Ausnesfjorden, 16 km from Svolvær towards Fiskebøl and about 8 km away from Svolvær Airport – Helle. The mirror reflections in this beautiful fjord are pure pleasure and is a real deception for the eyes. The contours are sharp, the colors unbelievable clear and nuanced, which all adds up to a magnificent mesmerizing and exceptional experience.

out of Hattvika Lodge we explore the dramatic and largely untouched Arctic landscape and immensely scenic viewpoints, Lofoten is arguably one of the best locations in the world in regards to photography. Volanstinmden 547 m is a good introduction to hiking on Lofoten and can be reached out of our base camp at Hattvika Lodge within one hour.
Though the mountain looks imposing from below, the route to the summit is well worn and easy to follow. This is a nice and easy trail for the most part, with a couple big steps and then some rocky sections on the upper slopes of the mountain.

Out of my base camp at Hattvika Lodge I try to explore and map down as many places as possible and as long as my ITCHY-FEET carrying me.

To the north, a late summer sun hangs low over calm waters of the Norwegian Sea. Below, Kvalvika beach is illuminated in golden sunlight while a distant rainbow marks the recent passing of a light rain shower. Standing on the beach, Ryten appears as a massive cliff rising to a height of 543 meters directly from the sea. From above, the view back towards Kvalvika beach is one of the most spectacular to be found anywhere on the Lofoten Islands; it is worth making the hike up Ryten for nothing more than this view alone.

If there is to be a ‘Matterhorn of Lofoten,’ then this designation surely belongs to Skottinden. Rising from the southwestern peninsula of Vestvågøya, Skottinden is an imposing mountain peak rising high above the waters of the Nappstraumen. From nearly any point on Vestvågøya, the mountain is an eye-catching site that begs for a journey to the summit by any adventurous hikers.

If there is to be a ‘Matterhorn of Lofoten,’ then this designation surely belongs to Skottinden. Rising from the southwestern peninsula of Vestvågøya, Skottinden is an imposing mountain peak rising high above the waters of the Nappstraumen. From nearly any point on Vestvågøya, the mountain is an eye-catching site that begs for a journey to the summit by any adventurous hikers.

Small waves of turquoise blue water wash gently across the white sand while mountain peaks rise into the blue sky above. Typically the words arctic and beach are not usually mentioned together in the same sentence, however, on the Lofoten islands, there are perhaps some of the most spectacular beaches you will ever see.
The Haukland beach area including the mountain 'Mannen' is part of Hattvika Lodge trail running terrain. So book your active stay, check in and get out there!

If we say we go out for a run we really mean out! Like yesterday when I went up with our great Swedish trail running guest and friends and to Haukland beach and Mannen. After the last couple of days where the weather was just rainy and cold, we were really lucky today and the trails were perfect.

The Lofoten Ultra Trail 2018 has finally finished yesterday with a party in Svolvaer and our team, the Vestvågøy kommune is very happy and proud that we were four faster compare to 2017. Nine runners finished this relay race after 22 hours and two minutes which were needed for the distance of 168 km !!!

We, as a team at Hattvika Lodge, are outdoor rooted and aware of the risks while guiding any of our activities.

Accidents can and will happen at some point because most outdoor activities involve inherent risks. Our goal is to get everyone safely back. An essential part of reaching this goal is to identify, evaluate, reduce or avoid risk factors that may occur.

By introducing our tour plan and risk analysis for this specific trip we wish to make our group participants aware of the challenges we may face throughout the day. By doing this we also dramatically increase the chances of a successful and memorable trip.
